It has a top speed of 210 km/h, a boost power of 190 kW, weighs 860 kilo and runs on hydrogen. Can you guess what it is already? The title might be a giveaway: it is the Forze VI. This week the Forze VI is the reason to be proud of our university. The 16th of November, this TU Delft Dreamteam broke the electric lap record of Circuit of Zandvoort that was set by Tesla Roadster. The lap, 4.3 km long, took 2:05,450 to complete, leading to an average speed of 128 km/h. This was 5 seconds faster than the record set by Tesla. The driver of the Forze was Jan Lammers, a former Formula One driver.

The Forze Hydrogen Racing dreamteam focuses on developing a fast electric racecar, that run on hydrogen. A fuel cell on board converts the energy from the hydrogen to electric energy, allowing the use as a battery. This increases efficiency to a level that is two to three times higher than a conventional combustion engine. Moreover, a hydrogen tank can be refilled in minutes, with preservation of the range of an ordinary car. On the downside, it is more expensive to produce.

The dreamteam has seven full-time members, each responsible for a separate part of the car. In total, around 70 people work on the project, varying from part-time to minor students, to full time members. Do you want to stay up to date? Follow them on Facebook, Twitter or visit their website.
