From 13 until 15 February, TU Delft Campus and the municipality of Delft organise a very special three- days festival. The innovative festival takes you on a route along beautiful historic places in Delft, laboratories on campus and other unique locations –  a number of which are opening their doors especially for this occasion! Experience the tension between installation and location as you  explore the interface between art and technology. You will get a glimpse of the future and  be challenged to think about how creativity in technology contributes to shape a joint future. Do you always check an URL in an email? Do you know what to look out for to see if an URL is reliable? Then it’s good to know that as of November some of these links will look different. At TU Delft we have increased the email protection. All email from external parties send to students (@tudelft.nl) goes through a filter to better protect against phishing, malware, viruses, imposter email, spoofing attacks, etc.

How does it work?

Because all links go through a filter to check it is secure, you will see “urldefense.proofpoint.com/…” instead of the real URL of the link when you hoover over it with your mouse. The link will still work and directs you to the original location. When the filter marks a link as suspicious, you will be directed to an information page instead. This way your @tudelft.nl addressed email is protected at all locations, on and off campus, and on all devices (pc, mac and mobile equipment) that you use.

If you want to copy a link and paste it in a different location, click on the link. In the browser, the original link will be visible. You can copy it there.

Why do we need email protection?

Phishing and email-based attacks have become an increasingly IT security problem, and the TU Delft community is attacked on a regular basis. The filter protects us against viruses, blocks or redirects spam, checks links and attachments. This is an automated process and does not monitor or read private email messages, so your privacy is guaranteed.

On November 29^th 2019, a national ‘climate strike’ will be organized, as a follow-up to the climate strike of September 27^th 2019.

TU Delft attaches great importance to climate action. In this regard, a vision paper was recently published on how we aim to harness our innovative powers to support the world-wide transition to non-fossil energy, and thus support the adaptation of the living environment to the consequences of global warming. In addition, we have signed the joint climate declaration of universities.

We realize this also raises expectations about our attitude towards ‘climate strikes’ as an employer and educational institution. In view of our institutional position on climate action, the approach of the Executive Board with regard to this “climate strike” is as follows:

• As a technical-scientific institution, TU Delft endorses the general purpose of the demonstration;
• We allow staff and students who request this to be present at this demonstration on November 29th;
• Students and members of staff with teaching (or other) obligations are asked to discuss matters with their course supervisor / line manager in case they want to participate in the strike to assess how participation in the strike might impact on these obligations.

TU Delft students Marijn van den Brink and Mees Vanderbroeck are selected to present their bachelor research during the 10th edition of the Student Research Conference (SRC), which will take place on 5 December at the Utrecht University Hall. Prizes will be awarded to the best performances and presentations from 60 runners-up. These excellent students will receive a publication in the open access e-journal SURE! of TU Delft. In addition to this, they have a chance of winning one of the many SRC Awards; there will be eleven prizes of €500 and the winner could return home with a prize as high as €1,500. Would you like to give feedback about the catering facilities on campus? From Monday 11 until Friday 22 November you may be asked for your opinion by one of the student interviewers (recognizable by a gray sweater with a Food & More logo). Your feedback will be used for improvement.

On Monday November 11 the renovation of the Library will start. All the study rooms, the living room, the printing area and most project rooms will be renovated over the coming next six weeks. This way the Library will start the new year refreshed and improved. Team Meysa was the winner of the Student Education Hackathon that was organised on 3&4 October. They are chosen as one of the finalists of the global DigiEduHack competition. They had to beat 130 solutions worldwide and are now down to the final 10. The best three teams win 5000 euros each and become Digital Education Ambassadors. Team Meysa designed the Teacher’s Toolbox. A highly customisable online platform, which gives teachers the opportunity to become creators of their own educational games and share them with their peers.
