A big thank you from all of us @TU Delft 👌

A big thank you from all of us @TU Delft for completing the National Student Survey (Nationale Studenten Enquête)! The response was higher than last year, and on all subjects the score increased significantly compared to last year.

We are very happy since these results show your appreciation of our ongoing effort for your education.

Could we count on you again next year? A new version of the survey is expected early 2020 and you will be asked to complete it again. The results of this year.

Start construction of the new education building Echo

Another education building is in the making. The construction of Echo will start November 11th and will take two years: at the start of the 2021-2022 academic year you will be able to follow courses in the brand new building!

The growing number of students in combination with the need for larger and more flexible educational spaces has led to the development of an additional educational building.

What do you notice about the work?
Although the work is noticeable, nuisance is limited as much as possible. During the exam period there are no noise causing activities. For example, a number of piles are drilled into the ground instead of being hammered. Furthermore, the accessibility of the area is guaranteed: with the exception of a few short road closures, for example for transport, you can access all roads.

Extra study places, sustainable and energy-neutral
Just like the Pulse education building, Echo will be used for all faculties and study programmes. A total of 1,700 teaching places and 360 study places will be provided here! The emphasis at Echo is on medium-sized and large education halls, varying from 64 to 700 people. Some rooms can be flexibly partitioned or merged. Echo also offers many opportunities to meet fellow students, with good catering facilities and longer opening hours. The design and layout of Echo meet high sustainability standards and the building will be energy-neutral. The area around Echo will become greener in the coming years, with more designated areas for pedestrians and cyclists.

During the upcoming exam period TU Delft facilitates you with extra opening hours to study at the Library and the Fellowship. Why don’t we involve more games in class?

It’s very easy to learn by playing a game… Why don’t we involve more games in class? Gamification in education costs a lot of time which teachers don’t have. One student-team solved this challenge during the 24-hour Education Hackathon on 3 and 4 October. They designed an online platform to easily create games on basis of existing successful games. It saves a lot of time since it is not necessary to design & test the games.

In total 5 motivated teams were working 24-hours to design solutions. They did not sleep and were programming all-night-long. With lot’s of food, energy drinks, workshops, facilitators and expert mentors they were stimulated to come up with creative results.

Check out the details of the winning solution on the Education Hackathon website. The following months they will continue to work on their solution with support of YES!Delft and LDE CEL. Hopefully we can start experimenting with the solution & teachers at the Teaching Lab on campus very soon.

TU Delft and all of us to the rescue!

As you must have noticed, dusk is settling in quicker and this creates the perfect opportunity for vampires 🧛‍♂️ and werewolves 🐺 (read ‘criminals’ ) to be more active, increasing the risk of crimes.

But no worries, TU Delft and all of us to the rescue!

This week is the National Safety Week. TU Delft is taking part in this national initiative to increase awareness of your own role for safety on campus. It invites you to take responsibility for your personal safety – for your ‘25 metres circle’ during this week and beyond. All activities on campus during this week.

You could ask: “but what does that actually mean…”

Well, imagine walking across campus – let’s say you are heading from the Aula to X to get your weekly workout – and you notice something happening within a space of 25 meters around you (in case you are wondering that’s the radius and you are in the centre). Within your (enlarged) bubble you react to what you see happening.

If someone falls, you pat them on their shoulder and offer help. If someone is in pain, comfort and support them, and if you notice someone being treated unfairly, protest and call the police or the ambulance if it gets out of hand. Remember: you are not super(wo)man 🦸‍♀️ so try not to go overboard.

So take responsibility for your own 25m-circle, so that we can bubble the entire campus with safety and love for our fellow humans!

PS. Beside your physical safety you can also increase your digital safety! The 7 October you can get practical tips during the cybersecurity and privacy keynote talks organised by TU Delft in the Aula. Have a look at the programme and register here.
