Data Hackathon – Join for a chance to win €500!

Everyone uses data, and it is certainly fundamental at TU Delft for teaching, studying and research. Whether or not you are a coder – and regardless of your experience – join our hackathon activities on the broad theme of ‘data for learning’. Everyone is welcome!

The ‘100 DAYS OF…’ group is running a series of hackathon events in December and January to get
insights, reflections and ideas from all perspectives, from students, lecturers, researchers and support staff – and technical knowledge and experience is not required.

There are two hackathons you can take part in based on your interest:

1. Building with Data: you (or a group) develop something from existing anonymised educational data that we will provide. This might be a visualisation, a small application, or some insights or re-flections on ethical, privacy or any other relevant issues, related to the ‘data for learning’ theme. As a student, this is probably the one you may want to pitch in!
2. Educational Data Project: you (or a group) devise and pitch an idea or project, which may later be developed; for example, you could think about a new platform or novel uses for currently available data.

Two kick-off dates
Join one – or both – of the relevant kick-off events, where you can work in a group or individually, and we hope that whichever event you come to, you might meet others you could potentially work together with.

1. Join the Building with Data on 30 November at 12:00-14:00 at the Teaching Lab to get information on the anonymised dataset that we will provide, how it is structured, and about the kind of insights we might wish to gain. There will be plenty of time for questions, too. To register (as an individual or group), complete this form (deadline: 25 November).
2. Or come to the Educational Data Project on Wednesday 18 January at 14:00-16:00 at the Teaching Lab to get information about the hackathon: requirements will be fully explained and there will be plen-ty of time for questions. To register (as an individual or group), complete this form (deadline: 13 January).

Prize giving
Both hackathons will conclude with an event on Thursday 19 January at 12:30-15:30 at the Teaching Lab where you and the other individuals/groups will present their data visualization, project pitches and ideas – and could be selected to receive a prize of up to €500!

Corona is still among us. To be prepared for any resurgence of corona, TU Delft has prepared a roadmap for the corona approach. This plan considers four levels with corresponding measures.

Continuity of education
The corona virus and measures have had a major impact on students, staff and other stakeholders. The starting point in the approach is that TU Delft wants to avoid a closure of education given its substantial negative impact. In case of the highest, imminent level, we aim for a maximum of 50% students and teaching staff present in rooms on campus.

Hygiene measures and vaccination/repeat jab
At present, the government has not taken any additional measures. However, the advice remains that everyone continues to follow hygiene measures. These are: sneeze and cough into the elbow, do not shake hands and wash your hands regularly. Furthermore, the central government advises everyone to get vaccinated and/or get a repeat jab, as the jab protects against serious illness and hospitalisation due to the coronavirus. Want to get vaccinated against corona? Then make an appointment at www.planjeprik.nl or call 0800 7070 (7 days a week, from 8am to 8pm), but it can also be done without an appointment at Municipal Health Service locations found at www.prikkenzonderafspraak.nl. For the time being, TU Delft opts that you can attend education on campus without vaccination.

Corona update 18 november 2022
Corona is nog altijd onder ons. Om voorbereid te zijn op eventuele oplevingen van corona, heeft TU Delft een draaiboek opgesteld voor de corona-aanpak. In dit plan wordt rekening gehouden met vier niveaus met bijbehorende maatregelen.

Continuïteit van het onderwijs
Het coronavirus en de maatregelen hebben een grote impact gehad op studenten, medewerkers en andere betrokkenen. Het uitgangspunt in de aanpak is dat de TU Delft een sluiting van het onderwijs wil voorkomen gezien de forse negatieve impact ervan. In geval van het hoogste, dreigende niveau, streven we naar maximaal 50% aanwezige studenten en onderwijsmedewerkers in ruimtes op de campus.

Hygiënemaatregelen en vaccineren/herhaalprik
Op dit moment heeft de overheid geen extra maatregelen genomen. Wel blijft het advies staan dat iedereen de hygiënemaatregelen blijft volgen. Dit zijn: niezen en hoesten in de elleboog, geen handen schudden en regelmatig je handen wassen. Verder adviseert de Rijksoverheid iedereen om zich te laten vaccineren en/of een herhaalprik te halen, omdat de prik beschermt tegen ernstige ziekte en ziekenhuisopname door het coronavirus. Wil je je laten vaccineren tegen corona? Maak dan een afspraak op www.planjeprik.nl of bel met 0800 7070 (7 dagen per week, van 08.00 uur tot 20.00 uur), maar het kan ook zonder afspraak op GGD-locaties die zijn te vinden op www.prikkenzonderafspraak.nl. Vooralsnog kiest de TU Delft ervoor dat je zonder vaccinatie het onderwijs op de campus kunt volgen.

How are you? How often do you answer this question honestly? When you are not feeling well, it can be difficult to talk about it. The ‘How Are U?’- Week from the 14th to the 18th of November is an initiative to help you strengthen your awareness of well-being and personal development. This week will be filled with various workshops, an information market, inspirational speakers, volunteer opportunities and activities like a movie night to help you get to know the TU and your fellow students.

‘How Are U?’- Week start vandaag 14 t/m 18 november

How are you? Hoe vaak beantwoord jij deze vraag eerlijk? Als je je niet lekker voelt kan het lastig zijn hierover te praten. De ‘How Are U?’- Week van 14 tot en met 18 November is een initiatief om het bewustzijn rondom welzijn en persoonlijke ontwikkeling te vergroten. Deze week is gevuld met verschillende workshops, een informatiemarkt, inspirationele gastsprekers, vrijwilligerswerk and activiteiten zoals een filmavond zodat jij de TU en medestudenten kunt leren kennen.

We would like to invite you to join the third edition of the TU Delft Talkshow. This edition will take place during the ‘How Are U’ week, a week full of activities organized for and by students.   

Engineers play an important role in solving the major social issues of this century. The training of sufficient engineers is therefore crucial for the well-being and prosperity of the Netherlands. This is a major responsibility that TU Delft wants to take on. That is why a new strategic course is currently being explored. During this exploration fase we are keeping sight on the level of care for our engineers-in-the-making and our employees. That is why we wish to invite you to the latest edition of the TU Delft Talkshow. Other topics during the talk show are about social safety at TU Delft and IT security (hacking/phishing).
