Scammers are active, mainly targeting international students of Chinese origin at TU Delft. The scammers are allegedly acting on behalf of the Chinese police. They first announce that the students’ Citizen Service Number (CSN) has been found in connection with crimes such as drug trafficking. They threaten that their CSN will be taken away unless they prove their innocence.

They then force the student to transfer money to the fraudster’s bank account in China. They isolate the student and tell them not to contact anyone. If they refuse, family members will be arrested in their home country. Large sums of money are involved. The families go bankrupt, leaving the victim with too little money to live on and the student has to return home. The police in Delft have asked TU Delft to pay attention to this problem and to raise awareness about it at TU Delft.

Pas op: oplichters actief!

Er zijn oplichters actief die zich voornamelijk richten op internationale studenten van Chinese afkomst bij onder andere TU Delft. De oplichters opereren zogenaamd in opdracht van de Chinese politie. Zij verkondigen eerst het verhaal dat het BSN van de studenten is gevonden bij misdaden zoals drugshandel. Zij dreigen dat hun BSN wordt afgenomen als zij hun onschuld niet bewijzen.

Zij dwingen vervolgens studenten geldbedragen over te maken naar de bankrekening van de oplichters in China. Zij houden de student geïsoleerd en zeggen dat ze met niemand contact mogen hebben. Bij weigering zouden familieleden in het thuisland gearresteerd worden. Het gaat hierbij om grote sommen geld. Families raken bankroet en als gevolg hiervan heeft het slachtoffer te weinig financiële middelen om van te leven en dient de student terug te keren naar huis. De politie in Delft heeft TU Delft gevraagd hier aandacht aan te besteden en om bewustwording te creëren over dit onderwerp bij de TU Delft.

This academic year, the resits will take place in week 5.3 (Monday 17 July to Friday 21 July). Some results of the regular exams will not be announced until 10 days before the resit week. However, registration for an exam closes 14 days beforehand. This means that registration for the resit is closed before you receive your results. 

To be on the safe side, therefore, register now for the resit in week 5.3 to ensure that you can attend the resit if necessary.

Immediately de-register for the resit as soon as you receive the mark for the regular exam and know that you do not need a resit. This way, you create space for students who are on the waiting list and do need to take the exam. It also avoids unnecessary booking of rooms and invigilators, resulting in efficiency and cost savings. You also avoid unnecessary printing of exams. Schrijf je nu in voor de hertentamens van 17 tot 21 juli

Dit collegejaar vinden de hertentamens plaats in week 5.3 (maandag 17 juli t/m vrijdag 21 juli). De resultaten van sommige reguliere tentamens kunnen pas 10 dagen voor de herkansingsweek bekend worden gemaakt. Echter, de inschrijving voor een tentamen sluit 14 dagen van tevoren. Dit betekent dat de inschrijving voor de herkansing al is gesloten voordat je je resultaten ontvangt.

Schrijf je daarom voor de zekerheid nu al in voor de herkansing in week 5.3, om ervoor te zorgen dat je eventueel kunt deelnemen aan de herkansing.

Schrijf je direct weer uit voor de herkansing, zodra je het cijfer voor het reguliere tentamen ontvangt en weet dat je geen herkansing nodig hebt. Op deze manier creëren jullie ruimte voor studenten die op de wachtlijst staan en het tentamen wel moeten maken. Bovendien voorkomen we hiermee dat er onnodig veel zalen en surveillanten worden ingeroosterd, wat efficiëntie en kostenbesparing met zich meebrengt. The TU Delft car parks are currently being equipped with barriers and related systems. The car parks will remain accessible 24 hours a day. As a student, this means that you will have access to the TU Delft car parks with your campus card. It is also possible to link your number plate to your campus card, so that the barriers open automatically when your number plate is recognised. This makes it easier and quicker to get in and out. In order to make the most efficient use of parking spaces, you can park for free for a maximum of 48 consecutive hours. Parking for more than 48 hours? Then you can park between 08.00 and 18.00 Monday to Friday at the visitor rate. There will be no inconvenience to motorists during the works. Read more about the new parking policy here.

Ingang parkeerregulering start collegejaar 2023/2024
Momenteel worden de TU Delft parkeerlocaties voorzien van slagbomen en de bijbehorende systemen. De parkeerterreinen blijven 24/7 toegankelijk. Als student betekent dit dat je met je campuskaart toegang tot de TU Delft parkeerlocaties krijgt. Het is daarnaast ook mogelijk om je kenteken aan je campuskaart te koppelen, zodat de slagbomen automatisch omhoog gaan zodra je kenteken wordt herkend. Dan rijd je dus gemakkelijker en sneller in en uit. Om zo efficiënt mogelijk met de parkeerplaatsen om te gaan kan je maximaal 48 uur aaneengesloten gratis parkeren. Parkeer je langer dan 48 uur? Dan zal je parkeren tegen het bezoekerstarief op maandag t/m vrijdag tussen 08.00 en 18.00 uur. Tijdens de werkzaamheden zullen automobilisten geen hinder ondervinden. Technology Venture Development

The Delft Centre for Entrepreneurship will launch a new 15 EC free elective open to all second-year master students in Q1 of the 2023-2024 academic year. Following in the footsteps of the hugely popular Joint Interdisciplinary Programme (JIP), Technology Venture Development is a new leadership programme that provides ambitious students with the academic space to work full-time with students from different academic backgrounds on learning and practising the essential skills required for a career in technology entrepreneurship. Its innovative learning method resembles developing a business in a startup incubator with added flavours of business theory and history, case studies, and the practicalities around starting a business (e.g. IP rights, startup financing, etc.).  

Fast-paced and interactive, students form interdisciplinary teams around a common interest in developing a new venture idea. Much of the class involves talking to market experts and potential customers by developing and executing step-by-step interview protocols. Students will be helped and inspired by guest lecturers, the entrepreneurial journeys of famous and not-so-famous founders from the Delft startup ecosystem, and their crucial startup moments (finding a co-founder and team/market entry/prototyping strategy/funding strategy). This practical course helps students communicate business ideas and sharpen their presentational skills. It enables students to speak the language of a tech-based entrepreneur confidently.

As it is a 15 ECTS elective course, students should plan to work full-time on this programme during Q1. It is open to master-level students from any faculty. Please check here for further course details, including how to enrol and the class schedule.

As you know, we have been exploring the growth opportunities for our university since last year. Student numbers have increased significantly in recent years and are expected to continue to do so. This is putting increasing pressure on the campus and the city, while at the same time there is a growing need for engineers in society. We want to continue to meet this demand and at the same time do something about the increasing pressure. During the spring, several working and advisory groups looked at how we can achieve this ambition and what it means for the organisation.

Societal challenges
At TU Delft, we contribute to solving urgent societal challenges. These increasingly involve complex, interlocking transitions in areas such as energy, raw materials, the living environment and health and well-being. Expanding our contribution to these transitions is at the heart of our growth strategy. In concrete terms, this means that we want to develop Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes, and related research and innovation activities, on the themes of Future of Health, Climate & Energy Systems Engineering and Resilient Living Environment.

New location in Rotterdam
These new activities will be based in a yet to be determined location in Rotterdam. Over time, we aim to develop this site into a full-fledged campus for a significant number of students. At the same time, we aim to reduce the number of students at our current TU Delft campus from around 28,000 to 25,000 from 2026, in order to keep the pressure on the campus and the city manageable. However, our activities in The Hague and Amsterdam (AMS Institute) will continue to grow.

Action plans and diversity
The growth strategy will lead to several action plans in the coming period. The financial aspects and necessary investments will be further developed. A property plan will be drawn up, including student and staff accommodation. The growth strategy also has implications for attracting new staff and students. There will be an action plan to attract a more diverse group of potential students to TU Delft and to see if admission requirements can be broadened. A human resources action plan will help to recruit new staff.

Proposed decision and future developments
This is the essence of our proposed decision on 13 June. In the coming weeks, we will discuss this further with the employee and student participation bodies, which are already closely involved in the process. The Supervisory Board will also make a further statement. There will also be further meetings with staff, students and the city. We aim to make a final decision before the summer holidays. A new programme organisation will then be set up to draw up a development plan and coordinate implementation. This decision marks a milestone in the Contours2030 process, in which we have been exploring opportunities for growth since last year.

We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to this process so far. But we are not done yet. This is a big undertaking for all of us, and implementation still seems a long way off. But we will get there step by step, as long as we continue to communicate well with each other.

As a Board, we are very excited about the direction we are now taking. We look forward to working with you on new ways to continue fulfilling our mission: creating impact for a better society.

Bericht van het College van Bestuur: Contouren2030

Zoals jullie weten, onderzoeken we sinds vorig jaar de groeimogelijkheden van onze universiteit. De toestroom van studenten is de afgelopen jaren sterk toegenomen en zal naar verwachting blijven stijgen. Dit legt steeds meer druk op de campus en de stad, terwijl er ook een groeiende behoefte aan ingenieurs in de maatschappij is. We willen aan die vraag blijven voldoen en tegelijkertijd iets doen aan de toenemende druk. In het voorjaar hebben verschillende werk- en adviesgroepen zich gebogen over hoe we deze ambitie kunnen realiseren en wat dat betekent voor de organisatie.

Maatschappelijke uitdagingen
Als TU Delft dragen we bij aan het oplossen van urgente maatschappelijke uitdagingen. Het gaat steeds meer om complexe transities die met elkaar verweven zijn op het gebied van bijvoorbeeld energie, grondstoffen, leefomgeving en zorg. Het uitbreiden van onze bijdrage aan dergelijke overgangen is de kern van onze groeistrategie. Dit betekent concreet dat we bachelor- en masteronderwijs willen ontwikkelen, samen met onderzoeks- en innovatieactiviteiten, gericht op de thema’s Future of Health, Climate & Energy Systems Engineering en Resilient Living Environment.

Nieuwe locatie in Rotterdam
Deze nieuwe activiteiten zullen worden gevestigd op een nog te bepalen locatie in Rotterdam. Op termijn willen we deze vestiging uitbreiden tot een volwaardige campus voor een aanzienlijk aantal studenten. Tegelijkertijd streven we ernaar om het aantal studenten op onze huidige TU Delft Campus vanaf 2026 te laten dalen van ongeveer 28.000 naar 25.000, om de druk op de campus en de stad beheersbaar te houden. Onze activiteiten in Den Haag en Amsterdam (AMS Institute) zullen wel blijven groeien.

Actieplannen en diversiteit
De groeistrategie zal resulteren in meerdere actieplannen in de komende tijd. De financiële aspecten en benodigde investeringen worden verder uitgewerkt. Er zal een vastgoedplan worden opgesteld, waarbij ook gekeken wordt naar huisvesting voor studenten en medewerkers. De groeistrategie heeft ook gevolgen voor het aantrekken van nieuwe medewerkers en studenten. Er komt een actieplan om een diversere groep potentiële studenten voor TU Delft te interesseren en om te kijken of de toelatingseisen verbreed kunnen worden. Een HR-actieplan zal helpen bij het werven van nieuw personeel.

Voorgenomen besluit en verdere ontwikkelingen
Dit is de essentie van ons voorgenomen besluit op 13 juni. De komende weken zullen we hierover verder overleggen met de medezeggenschap, die al nauw betrokken is bij het proces. Ook zal de Raad van Toezicht nog een uitspraak doen. Daarnaast zijn er nog bijeenkomsten met medewerkers, studenten en de stad. We streven ernaar om vóór de zomervakantie een definitief besluit te nemen. Daarna zal een nieuwe programmatische organisatie aan de slag gaan om een ontwikkelplan te schrijven en de uitvoering te coördineren. Dit besluit markeert een mijlpaal in het Contouren2030-traject, waarin we sinds vorig jaar de groeimogelijkheden verkennen.

We willen iedereen bedanken die tot nu toe heeft bijgedragen aan dit proces. We zijn echter nog niet klaar met praten. Dit is voor ons allemaal een grote onderneming en de realisatie lijkt nog ver weg. Stap voor stap zullen we er echter komen, zolang we goed met elkaar blijven communiceren.

Wij, als College van Bestuur, zijn erg enthousiast over de richting die we nu inslaan. We kijken ernaar uit om samen met jullie te werken aan nieuwe manieren om te blijven voldoen aan onze missie: impact creëren voor een betere samenleving.

The Landbergstraat is to be reconstructed underground as well as aboveground. The sewers and drainage network is to be replaced, and cables and pipes are to be replaced or moved. The street will also get a new look, with new paving, more greenery, a separate footpath and new lighting. Construction will start on Monday 5 June, and is expected to go on until the beginning of October. This will affect access to the surrounding buildings and facilities.

Accessibility and schedule
The work will be carried out in phases in such a way that buildings and facilities on the street will remain accessible. Local diversions and accessibility will change a number of times during the works but those changes will be clearly indicated.

The intention is for the Landbergstraat to be back in use before the start of the new academic year (September). The final phase of constructions will go on until the end of October but these works, such as the installation of lighting and the planting of trees and other greenery, will cause very little disruption if any.

Sustainability
TU Delft is striving for a CO2-neutral, circular and climate-adaptive campus, while also focusing on improving biodiversity and quality of life. The reconstruction of the Landbergstraat will further this cause. For instance, the new sewers and drainage network has been specifically designed for short heavy rain showers, which are becoming increasingly frequent due to climate change. The new street will also be greener: there will be green façades, as well as a green strip down the middle of the street, containing trees and low vegetation. This green strip will also be used to harvest rainwater, while the trees will provide shade in hot weather. The lighting will be updated to meet the standard of TU Delft: LED lighting. The lamp posts along the Jaffalaan and on the parking area between the TPM faculty and the international childcare centre will be replaced as well. Finally, the pavers from the old street will be reused at the terminal for tram line 19 that is to be built next to P2.

Reconstructie Landbergstraat

De Landbergstraat wordt zowel ondergronds als bovengronds opnieuw ingericht. De riolering wordt vervangen en kabels en leidingen worden vervangen of verlegd. De straat gaat er bovendien anders uit zien met nieuwe bestrating, meer groen, een aparte voetgangersstrook en nieuwe verlichting. De werkzaamheden starten maandag 5 juni, duren naar verwachting tot begin oktober en hebben gevolgen voor de bereikbaarheid van de omliggende gebouwen en voorzieningen.

Bereikbaarheid en planning
De werkzaamheden worden in verschillende fasen uitgevoerd, dusdanig dat de gebouwen en voorzieningen aan de straat bereikbaar zijn. Omleidingen en toegankelijkheid zullen een aantal keer wisselen, maar worden terplekke duidelijk aangegeven.

Het is de bedoeling dat de Landbergstraat vóór de start van het nieuwe collegejaar (september) weer in gebruik is. Wel vinden er tot en met oktober nog afrondende werkzaamheden plaats, maar die veroorzaken weinig tot geen hinder. Denk hierbij aan plaatsing van de verlichting en het planten van  bomen en ander groen.

Duurzaamheid
De TU Delft werkt toe naar een CO2-neutrale, circulaire en klimaatadaptieve campus met aandacht voor verbetering van de biodiversiteit en leefkwaliteit. De reconstructie van de Landbergstraat draagt hieraan bij. Zo is de riolering berekend op korte hevige buien, die door klimaatverandering steeds vaker voorkomen. Daarnaast wordt de nieuwe straat groener: er komen groene gevels en in het midden komt een groenstrook met bomen en lage beplanting. Deze groenstrook dient ook als opvang voor regenwater en de bomen zorgen voor schaduw en dus verkoeling bij warm weer. De verlichting wordt aangepast naar de standaard van de TU Delft: LED-verlichting. Ook de lichtmasten langs de Jaffalaan en op het parkeerterrein tussen de faculteit TBM en het internationaal kind centrum worden vervangen. Tot slot worden de klinkers van de oude straat hergebruikt bij het eindpunt van tramlijn 19 dat bij P2 wordt gerealiseerd. 

During the exam period TU Delft facilitates extra opening hours to study at the Fellowship. The Library, Echo and Pulse are also available with regular opening hours from 08:00AM to 00:00AM, also in the weekends.

Tijdens de tentamenperiode faciliteert de TU Delft extra openingstijden om te studeren bij de Fellowship. De Bibliotheek, Echo en Pulse zijn ook beschikbaar met reguliere openingstijden van 08:00 uur tot 00:00 uur, ook in het weekend.
