Changes in tuition fee refund policy

Congratulations NUNA

Student News congratulates NUNA with their sixth victory at the World Solar Challenge! Especially this year the Challenge was nerve wracking. Solar Team Twente was the frontrunner during the race but NUNA outpaced them on the fourth day of the race. Twente finished second with a backlog of les than three minutes. The last day wasn’t easy, at the start of the race there were lots of clouds that blocked the sunlight, so the accu of Nuna8 wasn’t fully charged, it was even questionable if they could finish the race…

This win means that our Nuon Solar Team extends their medal collection with another gold medal on top of the other 5 gold and 2 silver medals earned in the previous 7 races TU Delft participated in.

Watch NUNA Live! Two days left until the big race

timthumb

In only two days, on Sunday 18 October the World Solar Challenge will begin. The TU Delft Nuna dreamteam is eager to start the race with their Nuna8. The car is 30 kilos lighter in weight than her predecessor and appears to have approved aerodynamically by 10%! So take a break from your exam preparations and watch the race live!

The dreamteam arrived in Australia over one month ago and was united with their Support Crew on October 10th. In preparation of the race the dream team has traveled and explored the racecourse backwards, from Adelaide to Darwin. A good teamspirit and smooth collaboration should lead to an amazing race. Groceries were done since the team will drive through the Australian dessert for days. Together with the Support Crew last preparations have (and are still being) made and a lot of last details have to be fixed.

TU Delft has been competing in the race, which happens every two years, since 2001 and won 5 times already.

Update: the works on the Kanaalpad are postponed. The bike path can be used this month (October).

This month the bike path (Kanaalpad) next to the Sebastiaansbrug will be broadened. This will result in a two-way bike path and a safer route. The works on the ‘Kanaalpad’ will take place from Monday 19th until Friday 30th October. The alternative route will be signposted. Please take a few minutes extra travel time into consideration.

Follow DARE’s rocket launch live

Update: The launch of Stratos II+ has been delayed to Thursday the 15th of October. The countdown rehearsal performed on Tuesday revealed too many unresolved issues.

It has cost about a year, many a night’s worth of sleep, and maybe some have gained some grey hairs, but here it finally is: The Stratos II+; ready for launch. DARE will launch the second ‘Stratos’ rocket, designed, produced and assembled by students. The rocket will be launched from El Arenosillo, Spain, and can be followed with a live stream here (be patient, loading takes a few minutes). Then, we will find out whether the work of the past 5 years result in a succesful launch to 50 km altitude. Are you going to watch?

Delft Aerospace Rocket Engineering (DARE) is one of the most advanced amateur rocketry clubs in the world. It is a group of ambitious students sharing a passion for rocket science. They dream of reaching space at 100 km altitude. Within DARE, rockets that serve a scientific and educational purpose are designed, built and launched. DARE has 130 student members, with another 80 alumni and extraordinary members.
