Starting this academic year, Ecosia has been set as the standard search engine for Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer on the computers in the teaching rooms at TU Delft.

When you use Ecosia to conduct a search, you are indirectly contributing to the planting of trees all over the world. The more active monthly users Ecosia has, the more relevant the search engine becomes for advertisers. Ecosia earns money when users click on the advertisements above and beside the search results. The profits made by Ecosia are used to support various tree-planting projects. Join in the tree planting by setting Ecosia as the standard search engine on your laptop! Delft University Fund announces the eight TU Delft Best Graduates 2021. Each year, TU Delft’s eight faculties nominate their Best Graduate. On 11 November, during the TU Delft Best Graduate Award Ceremony 2021, one of these eight nominees will receive the prestigious title TU Delft Best Graduate 2021.

From 15 November onwards, the P Bouwkunde, P Rotterdamseweg and P Sports car parks will have an access barrier and a steward. This marks TU Delft’s initial steps towards the introduction of regulated parking on campus. The installation of parking management systems at all car parks is a time-consuming process. Until these systems have been installed, the university will be implementing transitional measures at the busiest car parks. The measures will be introduced at the P Aula car park at a later date.

On working days between 07:00 and 15:00, everyone who needs to be on the TU Delft Campus will have access to the car parks. All staff and students need to do is show their campus card. Outside these hours, the barrier will be open and you will be able to drive in and out without restrictions. For the time being, outside these hours you can not drive into the car park on Rotterdamseweg due to safety reasons (driving out is possible).

The transition period will eventually be followed by the implementation of the parking policy, involving the installation of an electronic system that works in conjunction with the barrier. A dynamic signage system on the campus ring road will display real-time information on available parking spaces, so that users can find a free space quickly at one of the six central locations. This is expected to be rolled out gradually in the first and second quarters of 2022.

No inconvenience from work activities
Barriers are being installed at the P Sports and P Bouwkunde car parks. Work is currently underway, and is not expected to cause much – if any – inconvenience.

Opening of new multi-storey car park on Rotterdamseweg
On 15 November 2021, the first two levels of the new multi-storey car park on Rotterdamseweg will open. During this first phase, 300 parking spaces will become available. The opening of the second phase, which will add a further 300 parking spaces, is expected to take place in the fourth quarter of 2022. The total number of parking spaces in this part of the campus will remain the same. This means that the existing car parks behind the Faculties of 3mE and EEMCS will gradually be replaced by the spaces in the new multi-storey car park. The multi-storey car park on Rotterdamseweg is a circular building with a natural facade cladding. More information about the new car park on Rotterdamseweg is available here.

Start parkeerregulering 15 november
Met ingang van 15 november staat op P Bouwkunde, P Rotterdamseweg en P Sports een slagboom met steward. Daarmee zet de TU Delft de eerste stappen in parkeerregulering. Het kost tijd om alle parkeerlocaties te voorzien van parkeerbeheersystemen. Totdat deze zijn geïnstalleerd, wordt gestart met een overbruggingsperiode op de drukste parkeerlocaties. P Aula volgt op een later moment.

Op werkdagen van 7.00 tot 15.00 uur heeft iedereen met een bestemming op de TU Delft Campus toegang tot de parkeerlocaties. Medewerkers en studenten kunnen volstaan met het tonen van hun campuskaart. Buiten genoemde tijden staat de slagboom open en kan men vrij in- en uitrijden. Alleen het parkeergebouw aan de Rotterdamseweg kun je buiten deze tijden vanwege veiligheidsredenen voorlopig niet in rijden (uitrijden is wel mogelijk).

Uiteindelijk gaat de overbruggingsperiode over in de implementatie van het parkeerbeleid door een elektronisch systeem dat samenwerkt met de slagboom. Ook komt er parkeerinformatie langs de campusring met realtime beschikbaarheid om snel een vrije parkeerplaats te vinden op één van de zes centrale parkeerlocaties. Naar verwachting treedt dit in Q1 en Q2 2022 gefaseerd in werking.

Geen hinder werkzaamheden
Op de parkeerlocaties bij P Sports en P Bouwkunde worden slagbomen geplaatst. Daar wordt op dit moment aan gewerkt, maar er wordt weinig tot geen hinder van de werkzaamheden verwacht.

Opening nieuw parkeergebouw Rotterdamseweg
Op 15 november 2021 gaan tevens de eerste twee verdiepingen van het nieuwe parkeergebouw aan de Rotterdamseweg open. Met de opening van deze eerste fase komen er 300 parkeerplaatsen beschikbaar. De tweede fase – eveneens bestaande uit 300 parkeerplaatsen – is naar verwachting in Q4 2022 klaar voor gebruik. Het totaal aantal parkeerplaatsen in dit gedeelte van de campus blijft gelijk. Dat betekent dat bestaande parkeerterreinen achter de faculteiten 3mE en EWI langzaam maar zeker worden vervangen door de plekken in het nieuwe parkeergebouw. Het parkeergebouw aan de Rotterdamseweg is een circulair gebouw met een natuur-inclusieve gevelafwerking. Meer informatie over het nieuwe parkeergebouw aan de Rotterdamseweg vind je hier.

From Monday 15 to Saturday 20 November TU Delft will organize Autumn Sparks, a week to connect & reflect on campus. At a visible location on the Mekelweg, close to the X building an impressive pop-up pavilion will be placed. From 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. we will offer a wonderful ongoing program to contribute to the well-being of our (student)community. The tent village of the artist Dre Wapenaar will be a meeting point in which yoga sessions, workshops, lectures and performances will be organised. No fees will be charged. We hope Autumn Sparks provides students the opportunity to re-connect with themselves and each other. Furthermore the week aims to point in the direction of other program that contributes to wellbeing that can be found om campus all your round. This event coincides with the highlight Delft festival and with the week of the International Student.

In the “Series of interviews – UNLOCKING…”, TU Delft’s educators share their personal stories with you: from the dreams they once had to their hobbies and passions, and the hurdles they’ve encountered. Get inspired, and get to know the person behind the screen!

Through the 14 open interviews with a diverse group of educators from the TU Delft, Career & Counselling Services want to shed a positive light on well-being. The personal stories and insights shared by those who are often only seen in their position as teacher, scientist or executive show us that the struggles and doubts you may have as a student are an inevitable component of your growth process. The stories provide insight into the various ways you may bounce back, they show where these people get their resilience, what and who has made them stronger. It sometimes takes years before you realize something, and occasionally there is a flash of insight. Examples of experience may help to speed up the learning process, and sometimes make it a little less painful. And there is no path that is better than another; hopefully at least one of the paths resonates with you!

From this week onwards 5 new videos will be released every week. In this week interview, Dr. Carey Walters (Associate Professor Ship and Offshore structures of the faculty of 3ME) shares with us what he thinks are key skills to have as a future engineer. Hoe goed ken jij je docenten eigenlijk? Wat hen drijft? Wat hun visie is op leren, zelfontwikkeling en welzijn? En wat zijn de levenslessen die zij geleerd hebben tot nu toe?

In de “Series of interviews – UNLOCKING…” wil Career & Counselling Services op een inspirerende en positieve wijze welzijn onder de aandacht brengen, door middel van 14 interviews met een diverse groep onderwijzers van de TU Delft. Laat je inspireren en leer de persoon achter het scherm beter kennen!

De persoonlijke verhalen en inzichten gedeeld door hen die we meestal enkel als docent, onderzoeker of leidinggevende kennen laten ons zien dat de twijfels en worstelingen die je soms hebt als student een onvermijdelijk onderdeel zijn van ieders groeiproces. En dat ook deze onderwijzers, onderzoekers en leidinggevenden dromen, twijfelen en (nog steeds) leren. Met soms kwetsbare anekdotes delen deze onderwijzers van de TU Delft hun inzichten en ervaringen over hoe zij tegenslagen zijn overkomen, wat hun veerkracht geeft en wat of wie hen sterker heeft gemaakt.

Vanaf deze week verschijnt iedere week een nieuw interview. Tuesday evening the government announced new measures for higher education. As of 6 November the use of face masks is mandatory in all buildings while moving around.

How do we ensure a safe campus?

• Stay at home if you have corona-related symptoms and get tested;
• Keep to the basic rules: wash your hands often and thoroughly and sneeze and cough into your elbow;  
• Give space , 1.5 metres is a safe distance.  
• Do not shake hands;  
• Do the Quarantine Check and follow the quarantine guidelines;  
• You are advised to use (voluntary) free self-tests twice a week.  

Further details will follow after consultation with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. If the increased measures will have further consequences for higher education, these will also be published on this site.

Corona update: Mondkapjes vanaf 6 november weer verplicht

Afgelopen dinsdag heeft het kabinet bekend gemaakt dat in het hoger onderwijs het mondkapje met ingang van 6 november verplicht is bij het verplaatsen in de gebouwen.

Hoe zorgen we voor elkaar en  een veilige campus? 

• Blijf thuis bij corona gerelateerde klachten en laat je testen;
• Blijf de basisregels volgen: was vaak en goed je handen en nies en hoest in je elleboog; 
• Geef elkaar de ruimte en houd 1,5 meter afstand;
• Schud geen handen; 
• Doe de Quarantaine Check en volg de quarantaine richtlijnen; 
• Je wordt aangeraden om twee keer per week gebruik te maken van (vrijwillige) gratis zelftesten. 

Nadere details volgen nadat er overleg is geweest met het Ministerie van OCW.  Indien de aanscherpingen meer gevolgen zullen hebben voor het hoger onderwijs, vind je die eveneens op deze site.

Externe veiligheidsoefening rond het RID

Wat

Defensie en de Koninklijke Marechaussee (Kmar) hebben het Reactor Instituut Delft (RID) opgenomen in een gecombineerde externe veiligheidsoefening met TNO Defensie. De TU Delft stelt het terrein rond het RID beschikbaar voor de oefening, maar medewerkers van het RID/ de TU Delft nemen niet deel aan de oefening. Dit betekent dat vanaf donderdag 4 november 2021 op 6 achtereenvolgende donderdagen rond het RID terrein een paar uur oefeningen zullen plaatsvinden. Bij deze oefeningen zullen medewerkers van Defensie en de Kmar rond het RID zichtbaar zijn. Instructeurs van de oefening zullen opvallende hesjes dragen. Vanuit de politie zijn twee medewerkers aangesteld die deel uitmaken van de oefenleiding. De politie neemt zelf niet actief deel aan de oefening.

External security exercise around the RID

What

The Ministry of Defence and the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee (Kmar) have included the Reactor Institute Delft (RID) in a combined external security exercise with TNO Defence. TU Delft will make the terrain around RID available for the exercise, but employees of RID/ TU Delft will not participate in the exercise. This means that from Thursday 4 November 2021 on 6 consecutive Thursdays a few hours of exercises will take place around the RID terrain. During these exercises employees of the Ministry of Defence and the Kmar will be visible around the RID. Instructors of the exercise will wear distinctive vests. From the police force two employees have been appointed to be part of the exercise management. The police themselves will not actively participate in the exercise.

When

4, 11, 18, 25 November and 2, 9 December 2021 – every specified Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the latest.

Impact

The exercise will be visible to passers-by in the vicinity of the RID.
