Professor Rob F. Mudde new Vice Rector Magnificus/Vice President Education TU Delft

Professor Rob F. Mudde has been appointed Vice Rector Magnificus/Vice President of Education (VRM/VPE), also vice-chairman, of the Executive Board of TU Delft. The Supervisory Board has appointed Rob Mudde with effect from 1 March 2018.

Rob Mudde is Professor of Multiphase Flows and interim chairman of the ‘Imaging Physics’ department at the Faculty of Applied Sciences of the TU Delft. He is also Distinguished Professor in Science Education at the TU Delft and he leads the TU Delft Teaching Academy and the Teaching Lab.

The Supervisory Board is pleased that Professor Mudde has agreed to fill the position of VRM/VPE. “Rob Mudde is strongly committed to the education of ‘the Delft engineer’. He knows TU Delft very well and has broad, operational and strategic experience in the field of education at our university. Rob is a worthy successor to Anka Mulder in the field of education,” says Jeroen van der Veer, chairman of the TU Delft Supervisory Board.

Rob Mudde has a long track record at TU Delft. He has filled various scientific and managerial positions with the university over the past almost 30 years. In addition to the aforementioned positions, he has also been Director of Education at the Faculty of Applied Sciences for almost ten years. As chairman of the Education Taskforce, Mudde had a leading role in the development of the TU Delft Vision on Education in the run-up to the ‘TU Delft Strategic Framework 2018-2024, impact for a better society’.

The Board has looked for a candidate who fits well with the revised university administration model that came into effect on 1 January 2018. This model foresees the appointment of a Vice Rector Magnificus/Vice President Education, in addition to a Rector Magnificus/President of the Executive Board (Tim van der Hagen) and a Vice President Operations (Nicoly Vermeulen).

The Supervisory Board requested a formal recommendation from the Works Council and the Student Council and has received a positive recommendation on the appointment.

Opening pop-up Swappuccino

The Swappuccino pop-up opened at Coffee & Bikes on Monday 12 February 2018. This coffee bar and bike repair service is a cooperation between Sodexo, OATZ and Swapfiets (the bikes with blue tyres). The Swappuccino pop-up will be open from Monday – Friday from 8:00 to 18:00. It will not only provide coffee and breakfast, but also bike repairs even if you don’t have a Swapfiets.

This facility is aligned with TU Delft’s new catering vision as well as the targets for a sustainably accessible campus. A bike repair shop was high on many staffers and students’ wish lists.

Temporary
The term pop-up says it all: Swappuccino will be temporary. The new catering company for TU Delft will be announced this spring and it will take over all the catering facilities on campus according to the new catering vision in a phased manner, starting this summer. The definitive substantiation of Coffee & Bikes’ food & beverage provision will follow in September when the Pulse educational building with its new food market will be taken into use.

Bicycle parking facilities
The lower deck of the bicycle parking facilities at Coffee & Bikes is now in use. The top deck still needs to have a coating applied, however this requires higher than current outdoor temperatures. As soon as this has been completed, two–tier bicycle racks will be installed there too. The mound will be sown with grass in spring.

More information on the catering vision can be found here.
