“Game of thrones”, but about academics
Did you ever wonder about the other side of academic life? Do you know what the life of a professor looks like? We dare to challenge your view. The University of Leiden developed a movie showing ‘behind the scenes’ of a university. And mind you, this is anything but boring.
If you wonder whether you should proceed an academic career, or if you’re interested in what a dean does all day, the series “On Being A Scientist” gives you an interesting afternoon, plus insight in university politics. It is meant to prepare students for an academic career and help them avoid pitfalls in that respect, while at the same time showing how a movie can be used for educational purposes. The developers want to start a dialogue about movies in education: making situations more engaging by using actors.
The 9 episodes (English) will be shown in sequence at the 7th of April, in the cinema Trianon in Leiden. A Q&A and discussion about the purpose of the movie will be held afterwards. The session is from 11:30 till 14:00: free lunch and drinks will be served. For more information and registration, see this website.
