TU Delft TV presents a brand new episode: ‘the Flood Fighter’
Global warming, what will we do to defend us from growing flash floods? This all new episode of TU Delft TV tells us about the research of Dr. ir. Floris Boogaard, the TU Delft Flood Fighter. Global warming is flooding our streets and Boogaard is researching innovative monitoring of sustainable urban drainage systems and management systems that have been implemented 20 years ago.
In order to develop the implementation and prolong the lifespan of sustainable urban drainage systems (suds) the research aims to formulate methods and guidelines for designing, building and maintaining them. To gain knowledge about the the required performance of suds Boogaard has to collect information regarding the quality of stormwater. Since there are several innovative drainage systems in the Netherlands thanks to policy guidelines for design and operation, there is a large database with measurements of stormwater throughout the country.
To test the hydraulic capacity of suds, Boogaard is flooding our streets, as you can see in the video. The video explains more about how this hydraulic capacity and global warming are interconnected. So don’t hesitate, hit that play button and enjoy the informative 2 minute pitch about the Flood Fighter!
