Design the new TU Delft campaign
Do you like playing around with Indesign or Illustrator? Or did the current TU Delft promo always feel a little off to you, personally? Well, now’s your chance! The Communications department of TU Delft is looking for a new campaign to reach out to new students. They developed a contest to find their new style, and you are invited to participate. “Parking disk” trial for study spaces at the Library
You arrive at the library. It’s packed. In the distance you see, what seems like, an empty space. Nope, someone just dropped their bag on the chair and left. Basically occupying a spot without using it. Or maybe they’re off for a quick lunch break.
In order to counter the difficulties with students claiming study spots while not using them, the Library introduced the ‘parking disk’ as a positive solution. Continue reading
Remember your deregistration when you graduate
Almost finished with your exams and waiting for the results? Then you should know that your registration at TU Delft will not be terminated automatically when you are graduated. . When you are graduating, you should file a request for deregistration during the month of graduation. You do not have to wait until graduation; you may submit the request as soon as you can, preferably even a couple of weeks prior to your graduation date. You pay tuition fees up to and including the last month of your registration. Retroactive deregistration is not allowed
So, have you passed your exams and are you officially done studying? Time to deregister and celebrate! Visit the CSA website for more information regarding deregistration and/or a possible refund of tuition fees.
A guilt-free 15-minute break from studying
You should be studying for your exams, but suddenly you find all those useful jobs that can’t wait any longer. Or you click on interesting articles you come across.
You’re doing it right now.
Instead of studying, you are suddenly doing your dishes from two weeks ago, or cleaning up your desk. This is actually completely rational behaviour. Instead of studying, which takes long to complete and to feel satisfied for, you choose short-term tasks that give you satisfaction right away. If you’re interested, papers are written on this topic.
Service Desks now open until evenings
Late night studying now also means late night service!
Starting this week, all Service Desks on our campus will be open until later in the evening. You’re able to consult the Service Desks for support regarding IT, FMRE and E&SA matters from 08.00 until 22.00. The opening hours of the Student IT Desks (ww.sid.tudelft.nl) will remain the same.
For more information about the services provided by the Service Desks, see http://servicedesk.tudelft.nl
The Fellowship under construction – Find your study space in the Aula.
Construction work has started at the Fellowship, next to the Aerospace Engineering faculty. It will become the central catering facility for the southern part of our campus. Three different food units by three different entrepreneurs, with a wide variety of food and drinks. Pretty awesome, right?
Since exam weeks are coming up, the Fellowship might not be the best place to study due to noise nuisance. Luckily the Aula has over 650 places available for study purposes, which can be used from 08.00 til 22.00 on week days and from 08.00 til 20.00 during weekends. The entrance hall, foyer and first floor are equipped with places for self-study, while the restaurant has project work places.
If you still decide to study in the Fellowship, keep the following construction works in mind:
This week (2.9, preparing the temporary construction)
19/01 Driving piles
20/01 Printers on ground floor are available
Next week (2.10 demolishing part of southwest facade, noise nuisance possible)
25/01 13.00-17.00 silence during exam
TU Delft alumni network: here to help you
Do you want to know the ins and outs of getting a job? Or are you just curious where the most mechanical engineers live? With 48.000 alumni all over the world, the TU Delft has an extensive network. We keep former students involved with the university and give them the opportunity to help current students. The first product out of this (we’re a technical university after all) was Dwillo, a programme to arrange meetings with alumni to help with study-related questions. This was an initiative of the student council party Lijst Bèta.
Now, our second tool is ready. World of Alumni shows you the world of TU Delft alumni: it shows where they live and allows you to search on region or study. When available, the tool gives you the contact details of the alumni in your region. These can be used to ask questions about their current job, inform after internships or about interesting job areas. The tool also provides fun facts about age, nationality and gender in the region.
Curious? Check worldofalumni.tudelft.nl.
TU Delft TV – Understanding atomic structures with Pearl
https://youtube.com/watch?v=Q-VMGNC_xeg
In this brand new episode of TU Delft TV we meet the newest gadget of our own Reactor Institute: Pearl. Lambert van Eijk developed Pearl to gain insight into the structures of atoms. Together with Graeme Blake and Marnix Wagemaker he explains how this will help to develop better batteries for phones, laptops and remote controls. Just to name a few.
Pearl is one examples of a lot of cool stuff that can be found, hidden around our campus. Curious? Check out more episodes of TU Delft TV here. And stay tuned for the next episode in two weeks.
Difficulties with maths and mechanics? Find the M&M Helpdesk in the Library
From 13 to 27 January, Bachelor students who experience some difficulties with the preparations of their mathematics and mechanics exam can get free help in the Library. They can consult the Helpdesk, located in Project Room Asia which is open Monday to Thursday from 13.00 to 17.00 hours.
When you are not in the Library, but still have some questions, you can use the standard Instant Messenger application of TU Delft called Blackboard IM. Find it in the bottom left of your Blackboard homepage. The name of the helpdesk is Maths & Mechanics.
Good luck studying! And don’t be afraid to ask for a little help once in a while
