Besides five awesome locations where the Summer Schools are hosted, you don’t have to pay for tuition or board and lodging. Logo Lijst Beta

Wednesday, May 18th is the day for you to evoke your student rights and vote for the student council. No wonder that you probably noticed the promoters and posters of Oras and Lijst Beta all around campus last week. In case you haven’t spoken to one of them or just didn’t have the time to deepen yourself in the election points of both parties, we’ll provide you with a short overview of the main focus points of both parties:

Oras

  1. High quality education
“Personal attention contributes to more motivation in students and education from the highest quality”
  2. Personal Development
“The best engineers have more than just engineering knowledge”
  3. More study places in the library
“More, better and useful study areas, so more students can study in the Library”
  4. Decide yourself how and when to study
“A good engineer can plan and set priorities. [..] you learn by being responsible for your own study behaviour”
  5. Pay your sports card per month
“Why pay for a whole year if there are periods you do not use your sports card”
  6. No stone coal English please!
“Teachers should be able to speak English at a level which won’t hinder the students in their study process”
  7. Check your graded exam online
“It gives you the opportunity to learn more by seeing exactly what you got right or wrong”
Lijst Beta

  1. More freedom of choice in the curriculum
“Choose subjects that you find interesting makes you more motivated for your study”
  2. Teachers that motivate
“Nothing motivates students more than a motivated lecturer”
  3. Decide how you study
“Being able to take responsibility is one of the most important skills of a Delft engineer”
  4. Well prepared for the job market
“An engineer needs more than just his scientific knowledge, but also soft skills like leadership, communication and teamwork”
  5. Structural development of education
“Continuously innovating our education methods is something to be stimulated”
  6. Recognition for extracurricular study related activities
“Extracurricular activities contribute to you getting everything out of your education”
  7. Education in consultation with research
“Equivalent treatment of education and research”

Hopefully this overview helps you to make up your mind about what you are going to vote this week! Let your voice be heard and use your voice to choose the person/party you’d like to represent the students from TU Delft in the Student Council next academic year.

Detour for bicycles – crossing Westvest-Zuidwal closed

Bericht-Westvest-Zuidwal-dicht---13-mei-2016

Due to replacement of the sewer on Westvest (near the train station), the bicycle crossing Westvest-Zuidwal is closed until mid-July.

The crossing for cyclists and pedestrians on the Zuidwal at the height of the Westvest moves to the east, near the Lange Geer . Cyclists can make their way towards the station via the Lange Geer , Oude Delft and Binnenwatersloot / Bolwerk . Pedestrians can take the Lange Geer / Oude Delft and Barbarasteeg.

We actually recommend cyclists going towards the train station to use the Rotterdamseweg or Mijnbouwplein and Kanaalweg de Hambrug / Hamtunnel and hooks through the Giststraat on the detour route to the station through Lange Geer, Oude Delft , Binnenwatersloot / Bolwerk.

Cyclists coming from the station towards TU Delft bikes on the bike path on the other side of the Westvest, direction Bolwerk , can continue their route through the Binnenwatersloot , Oude Delft, taking the Hamtunnel / Hambrug in the direction of the university.

Cyclists still can not use the reduced cycle path along the direction Westsingel Hooikade , because here the quay wall has yet to be renewed . This is expected to be completed in September.
