The Rotterdam-The Hague Metropolitan Region (MRDH), which is responsible for the new tram line, stopped work on the Mekelweg in September due to supply problems. They have now found a solution and are working with suppliers and contractors to draw up a new schedule. TU Delft has set conditions and is waiting for the new schedule to ensure that the tram line meets the agreed specifications, so that research on campus is not disrupted.

Temporary bus stop near the Aula Building
A temporary bus stop on the Christiaan Huygensweg will ensure that a bus will stop near the Aula Building again soon. The exact start date is not yet known. The buses have been using a different route since May due to the construction of the tram line. This temporary bus stop will remain in use until the tram is operational.

Work on the Van den Broekweg
Work continues on Van den Broekweg. The electromagnetic shielding system, which prevents interference with the survey work, is only in place on Mekelweg. On Van den Broekweg, the points and tracks are currently being installed. Work will continue into the new year, with the completion of the track, the installation of the overhead line and the construction of the stop.

Update trambaan

De Metropoolregio Rotterdam Den Haag (MRDH), die verantwoordelijk is voor de nieuwe tramlijn, stopte in september met de werkzaamheden op de Mekelweg vanwege leveringsproblemen. Nu is er een oplossing gevonden, en ze werken samen met leveranciers en aannemers om een nieuwe planning op te stellen. De TU Delft heeft voorwaarden gesteld en wacht op de nieuwe planning om ervoor te zorgen dat de tramlijn voldoet aan afgesproken specificaties, zodat onderzoek op de campus niet wordt verstoord.

Tijdelijke bushalte nabij de Aula
Een tijdelijke bushalte aan de Christiaan Huygensweg zorgt ervoor dat er binnenkort weer een bus in de buurt van de Aula stopt. De exacte startdatum is nog niet bekend. Bussen volgen sinds mei een andere route vanwege de tramlijnconstructie. Deze tijdelijke bushalte blijft in gebruik totdat de tram operationeel is.

Werkzaamheden Van den Broekweg
Werkzaamheden op de Van den Broekweg gaan door. Het elektromagnetisch reductiesysteem, dat verstoring van onderzoeksactiviteiten voorkomt, is alleen op de Mekelweg van toepassing. Op de Van den Broekweg worden momenteel het wissel en de sporen gemonteerd. De werkzaamheden gaan door in het nieuwe jaar, waarbij niet alleen het spoor wordt afgewerkt, maar ook de bovenleiding wordt geïnstalleerd en de halte wordt gebouwd.

Art Exhibition
Visit the ‘Lens(less)ness’ exhibition on display in the Library until 10 January 2024. Follow the path of NanoArt panels revealing the beauty of the quantum chip as seen through the lens of QuTech researchers. Explore fascinating Lasergrams as artists Evelina Domnitch & Dmitry Gelfand completely removed the lens, shining lasers through various mediums against light-sensitive materials. Collaborative pieces made by the artists and researchers are at the centerpiece of the exhibition. ‘Lens(less)ness’ is free to visit in the Main Hall during Library opening hours.

Bezoek de tentoonstelling ‘Lens(less)ness’ die tot 10 januari 2024 in de Library te zien is. Volg het pad van NanoArt-panelen die de schoonheid van de quantumchip onthullen, gezien door de lens van QuTech-onderzoekers. Ontdek fascinerende Lasergrams terwijl kunstenaars Evelina Domnitch en Dmitry Gelfand de lens volledig verwijderden en lasers door verschillende media lieten schijnen op lichtgevoelige materialen. Gezamenlijke stukken gemaakt door de kunstenaars en onderzoekers vormen het middelpunt van de tentoonstelling. ‘Lens(less)ness’ is gratis te bezoeken in de Centrale Hal tijdens de openingstijden van de Library. Redesigning deltas is the theme for our 182nd anniversary week, culminating in our traditional Dies Natalis celebration on 12 January 2024.

Sea level rises and salt intrusions, an ever-growing population and planning issues, urban flooding and summer droughts: the earth’s water – be it fresh or salt – is not just a lifeforce but increasingly poses threats and challenges. To keep Deltas around the world safe and livable in the future, we urgently need to rethink them, and plan and design them differently.

These complex and intertwined delta challenges can only be solved with an integrated and interdisciplinary climate adaptation approach. Already, we are joining disciplinary forces within our university, Dutch engineering alumni are renowned the world over for their knowledge on water safety and management, and we are educating future generations of engineers, instilling them with a mindset of integral thinking.

Yet much remains to be done. Our birthday celebration, including the preceding Deltaweek programme, is the perfect occasion to share best practices, hone our methods and shape our knowledge. Let’s discuss the way forward.

Delta Week activities

We invite all students, employees, alumni, partners and peers to take part in the Delta week leading up to our birthday, from 8 to 12 January. With student hackathons, a design session for policymakers and our Delta Innovation event, there should be something to meet your needs.

This whole weekend we are working on several applications, updates on servers and databases and updates on the network devices. The maintenance starts on 6h30 AM on Saturday morning and continues until the evening. We ask for understanding for any inconvenience.  

The network, both wireless and fixed, and all basic services including printing, cash registers and pin systems, lockers, coffee and vending machines are available. The access to the buildings and their facilities is as usual during the weekend.

ICT-onderhoudsweekend op 16-17 december

Op 16-17 december staat een ICT-onderhoudsweekend gepland. Dit gehele weekend wordt gewerkt aan diverse applicaties, updates op servers en databases en updates op de netwerkapparatuur. Het onderhoud start om 6.30 uur op zaterdagochtend en loopt door tot de avond. Wij vragen begrip voor eventuele overlast.

Het netwerk, zowel draadloos als vast, en basisdiensten waaronder printen, kassa’s en pinsystemen, lockers, koffie- en snoepautomaten zijn gewoon beschikbaar. De toegang tot de gebouwen en hun faciliteiten zijn hetzelfde als elk weekend.

Voor vragen over het onderhoudsweekend kun je contact opnemen met het Servicepunt in jouw gebouw. Wil je op de hoogte blijven van alle onderhoudswerkzaamheden en mogelijke storingen, kijk dan op Meldingen ICT, onder het tabblad ‘Onderhoud’.

The vending machines (coffee, tea, snacks, soft drinks) on our campus will soon be replaced. This will take place over a period of six weeks, starting on 4 December.

What does this mean?
The schedule indicates when the work will start in your faculty/department. The tasks include removing old machines, cleaning the locations, and installing new machines. Noise disturbance will be limited to drilling into countertops and relocating machines.

Availability of refreshments during the transition period
To avoid waste, the current machines will not be restocked as usual. Please use another machine in the building, choose a different refreshment or visit the staffed coffee corners.

Contribution to sustainability goals
With the renewed partnership, we are also taking a step toward achieving our sustainability goals:

• Elimination of disposable cups and the choice of oat milk result in a 71.5% CO2 reduction compared to the current machines.
• For every liter of water used, 1 liter of clean drinking water is donated to the Made Blue foundation.
• The coffee machines are 94.4% (staff machines) and 97.3% (student machines) circular. The materials used in the machines (plastic, metals, etc.) can be reused when the machine is retired.
• The new machines have an A++ energy label, with an expected energy consumption reduction equivalent to that of 10 average households.

Update overgang naar nieuwe vendingmachines per locatie

Binnenkort worden de vendingautomaten (koffie, thee, snoep, frisdrank) op onze campus vervangen. Gedurende zes weken, beginnend op 4 december, vinden hiervoor de werkzaamheden plaats. 

Wat betekent dit?
In de planning staat wanneer de werkzaamheden starten in jouw faculteit/dienst. De werkzaamheden houden in: oude apparaten verwijderen, reinigen van de locatie en installeren van nieuwe apparaten. Geluidsoverlast blijft beperkt tot het boren in werkbladen en het verplaatsen van machines.

Beschikbaarheid van consumpties tijdens overgangsperiode
Om verspilling va n de producten te voorkomen, worden de huidige automaten niet tot de laatste dag gevuld. Het kan dus voorkomen dat sommige consumpties iets eerder op zijn. Je kan dan gebruik maken van andere automaten in het gebouw, een andere consumptie kiezen of naar de bemande coffee corners gaan.

Bijdrage aan duurzaamheidsambitie
Met de vernieuwde samenwerking zetten we ook een stap naar het bereiken van onze duurzaamheidsambitie:

• Geen wegwerpbekers en de keuze voor havermelk levert een CO2-besparing van 71,5% op ten opzichte van de huidige machines
• Per liter gebruikt water wordt 1 liter schoon drinkwater gedoneerd aan stichting Made Blue
• De koffieautomaten zijn voor  94,4% (medewerkers-automaten), 97,3% (studenten-automaten) circulair. De materialen waar de machine van gemaakt is (plastic, metalen, etc.) kunnen worden hergebruikt als de machine is afgeschreven.
• De nieuwe automaten hebben een energielabel A++ . Er is een verwachte besparing van het energieverbruik van 10 gemiddelde huishoudens.

In this edition of the TU Delft talkshow Tim van der Hagen, Rob Mudde and Marien van der Meer will join us to discuss topical issues on the table in the boardroom. This could include geopolitical developments, cooperation with the fossil industry, finances and other issues going on inside and outside the organisation.

Our guest for the second part of the broadcast is Caspar Chorus, IDE dean and programme leader TU Delft Campus Rotterdam. He will elaborate on the status of the university’s growth ambition and the proposed expansion with a campus in Rotterdam.

Nieuwe TU Delft talkshow op 7 december

In deze eerstvolgende editie van de TU Delft talkshow gaan we met Tim van der Hagen, Rob Mudde en Marien van der Meer in gesprek over urgente onderwerpen die momenteel op de bestuurstafel liggen. Daarbij kun je denken aan geopolitieke ontwikkelingen, de samenwerking met de fossiele industrie, financiën en andere zaken die spelen binnen en buiten de organisatie.

In het tweede deel van de uitzending is Caspar Chorus, decaan IO en programmaleider TU Delft Campus Rotterdam, te gast. Hij gaat in op de stand van zaken rondom de groeiambitie van de universiteit en de voorgenomen uitbreiding met een campus in Rotterdam.

De uitzending staat gepland op donderdag 7 december, van 12.30 tot 13.30 uur. De talkshow is dan hier te bekijken.

The outcome of the Dutch national elections may make some of you feel uneasy. A change in politics had been in the air for some time, especially in the discussion about internationalisation.

While the result may indicate a more inward-looking mentality in parts of Dutch society, we at TU Delft are proud of our global reputation. We have achieved this by overcoming differences and even using them as strengths. After all, all those different perspectives, backgrounds and insights increase our brainpower and thus our opportunity to make a positive contribution to our common mission: creating impact for a better society. We will continue to do so.

The result and the upcoming coalition negotiations may fuel polarisation in Dutch society. Let us set an example and show what we can achieve as an international community.

At TU Delft, we do not exclude anyone, we seek to connect. Bericht van het College van Bestuur n.a.v. verkiezingsuitslag

De uitslag van de verkiezingen kan sommigen misschien een ongemakkelijk gevoel geven. Er was al een tijdje een verandering in de politiek merkbaar, vooral in de discussie over internationalisering.

Hoewel de uitslag misschien wijst op een meer naar binnen gerichte mentaliteit in delen van de Nederlandse samenleving, zijn we bij TU Delft trots op onze wereldwijde reputatie. We hebben dit bereikt door over verschillen heen te stappen en ze zelfs als kracht te gebruiken. Verschillende perspectieven vergroten onze denkkracht en verbeteren onze kans om een positieve bijdrage te leveren aan onze gezamenlijke missie: het creëren van impact voor een betere samenleving. We blijven hier onverminderd mee doorgaan.

De uitslag en de komende coalitieonderhandelingen kunnen de verdeeldheid in de Nederlandse samenleving vergroten. Laten we het goede voorbeeld geven en laten zien wat we als internationale gemeenschap kunnen bereiken.

Bij TU Delft sluiten we niemand uit, maar zoeken we verbinding. Of je hier nu werkt of studeert, je maakt deel uit van onze gemeenschap, ongeacht je achtergrond, etniciteit, nationaliteit of politieke voorkeur.
