De Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) Week keert dit jaar weer terug van 3 tot en met 6 oktober 2023, en het D&I Office opent de week met een kick-off evenement op dinsdag 3 oktober 2023 (12:00-15:00) op de TU Delft, in het Auditorium van het Aula gebouw! Bij deze nodigen we je van harte uit om van fascinerende externe innovators te komen leren over de mix van technologie en DE&I.

Dan zou je je verder kunnen professionaliseren met de Lerarenopleiding aan de TU Delft. Of je nu deze master combineert met je huidige studie of als een zelfstandig traject kiest, de kennis en vaardigheden die je hier opdoet, zullen van onschatbare waarde zijn.

From October 9 to 15, 2023, the national Safety & Security Week will take place. TU Delft has a diverse range of activities. Including a theater performance: At the request of and together with students, the Time Out Foundation developed the base for an interactive theatre performance about the grey area of sexual harassment, discrimination and abuse of power in their learning and living environment. 10-10 from 15:00-16:30 at the Auditorium, Aula. You can register via the website: Week van de Veiligheid (tudelft.nl)

Nationale Week van de Veiligheid

Van 9 t/m 15 okt. vindt de nationale Week van de Veiligheid plaats. TU Delft heeft een divers aanbod aan activiteiten. Onder andere een theatervoorstelling: Op verzoek van en samen met studenten ontwikkelden Stichting Time Out de basis voor een interactieve theatervoorstelling over het grijze gebied van seksuele intimidatie, discriminatie en machtsmisbruik in hun leer en leefomgeving. Op 10-10 van 15:00 – 16:30 in het Auditorium, Aula. Aanmelden kan via de website: Week van de Veiligheid (tudelft.nl)

On Monday 4 September, we entered the era of Artificial Intelligence at the traditional Opening of the Academic Year in the Aula. A full house enjoyed a programme featuring both human and AI-generated contributions, or even a combination of both. Special guest was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Social Affairs & Employment Karien van Gennip, who studied at TU Delft. Experts Avishek Anand and Olya Kudina gave their views on the topic of AI. So did Vice Rector/Vice President Education Rob Mudde, though with a wink.

Laten we samen AI op een verantwoorde manier vormgeven!

Op maandag 4 september betraden we het tijdperk van de Artificiële Intelligentie tijdens de traditionele Opening van het Collegejaar in de Aula. Een volle zaal kon genieten van een programma met zowel menselijke als AI-gegenereerde bijdragen, of zelfs een combinatie van beide. Speciale gast was vicepremier en minister van Sociale Zaken en Werkgelegenheid Karien van Gennip, die aan de TU Delft gestudeerd heeft. Experts Avishek Anand en Olya Kudina gaven hun visie op het onderwerp AI. Dat deed Vice Rector Magnificus/Vice President Education Rob Mudde ook, maar wel met een knipoog.

Just before the summer, the Executive Board shared the news about Contours2030, the University’s expansion plans. This decision became final on 11 July. This means that we will develop new bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes. The most concrete plans focus on Future of Health, Climate & Energy Systems Engineering and Resilient Living Environment. We aim to start these programmes in 2026. As these topics cut across several disciplines, multiple faculties will work together. We are also working with Erasmus University Rotterdam and Erasmus MC. This year, we will start exploring eight more new programmes.

New location in Rotterdam
We will not stop at education: there will also be invested in  research and innovation in these topics. These expansions would put too much pressure on our current campus and the city of Delft, so we are moving to Rotterdam.

The above should not sound too unfamiliar to you, as we have been discussing this for the past year. What we have set in motion over the summer is to extend this discussion to stakeholders outside the university in order to create support for our plans, both substantively and financially.

What’s next?
In the coming period, we will also focus on attracting students from groups that are currently underrepresented at our university, such as first-generation students and female students. We do this, not only because we want to train more TU Delft engineers for society, but also from the intrinsic motivation that we want our university to better reflect society.

As a university, we have set ourselves a long-term goal with Contours2030: to expand in a controlled way and take responsibility for major societal challenges. We will, of course, keep you updated.

Update Contouren2030

Vlak voor de zomer deelde het College van Bestuur het bericht over de Contouren2030 de plannen voor de groei van de universiteit. Op 11 juli werd dit besluit definitief. Dit betekent dat we nieuwe bachelor- en masteropleidingen gaan ontwikkelen. De meest concrete plannen zijn gericht op Future of Health, Climate & Energy Systems Engineering en Resilient Living Environment. We willen deze programma’s in 2026 laten starten. Omdat deze onderwerpen verschillende vakgebieden overlappen, zullen meerdere faculteiten samenwerken. We werken ook samen met de Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam en Erasmus MC. Dit jaar beginnen we met het onderzoeken van nog eens acht nieuwe opleidingen.

Nieuwe locatie in Rotterdam
Het blijft niet bij onderwijs: we doen ook onderzoek en investeren in innovaties. Deze uitbreidingen zouden te veel druk leggen op onze huidige campus en de stad Delft, dus verhuizen we naar Rotterdam.

Dit is waarschijnlijk niet nieuw voor jullie, want we zijn hierover al een jaar in gesprek. Wat we in de zomer in gang hebben gezet, is dat we dit gesprek hebben uitgebreid naar stakeholders buiten de universiteit, om steun te krijgen voor onze plannen, zowel inhoudelijk als financieel.

Wat is de volgende stap?
De komende tijd gaan we ons richten op het aantrekken van studenten uit groepen die nu nog minder goed vertegenwoordigd zijn op onze universiteit, zoals eerstegeneratiestudenten en vrouwelijke studenten. Dat doen we niet alleen omdat we méér Delftse ingenieurs willen opleiden voor de samenleving, maar ook vanuit de intrinsieke motivatie om een betere afspiegeling te zijn van diezelfde samenleving.

Als universiteit hebben we met Contouren2030 een langetermijndoelstelling vastgesteld: we willen gecontroleerd uitbreiden en onze verantwoordelijkheid nemen in het aanpakken van grote maatschappelijke uitdagingen. Uiteraard houden we jullie op de hoogte houden van wat er gebeurt.

The Metropolitan Region of Rotterdam and The Hague (MRDH) is currently constructing a new tram track, tram stop and reversing facility (tail track) for tram line 19 on campus. Due to supply problems, work on Mekelweg has been halted temporarily. This means that the barriers to the construction area on Mekelweg will remain in place longer. MRDH is not able to provide a further schedule at this time. However, work on the tram stop and the reversing facility at Van den Broekweg will continue. TU Delft will of course ensure that the tram track ultimately meets the agreed specifications, so that research on campus is not disrupted by vibrations and electromagnetic fields from the trams passing by. Meanwhile, the campus will remain accessible by bus. For more information, see the ​​MRDH project website or follow the project in de BouwApp.

Trambaan: werkzaamheden Mekelweg tijdelijk stilgelegd

Metropoolregio Rotterdam Den Haag (MRDH) legt op dit moment een nieuwe trambaan, halte en keervoorziening aan voor tramlijn 19 op de campus. Vanwege leveringsproblemen zijn de werkzaamheden op de Mekelweg tijdelijk stilgelegd. Dit betekent dat de afzetting van het werkgebied op de Mekelweg langer blijft staan. MRDH kan op dit moment nog geen planning voor het vervolg afgeven. De werkzaamheden aan de halte en de keervoorziening in de Van den Broekweg gaan wel door. Uiteraard ziet de TU Delft erop toe dat de trambaan uiteindelijk voldoet aan de afgesproken specificaties, zodat onderzoek op de campus niet wordt verstoord door trillingen en elektromagnetische velden bij het passeren van de tram. In de tussentijd blijft de campus met de bus bereikbaar. Kijk voor meer informatie op de projectwebsite van MRDH of volg het project in de Bouwapp.

Please be aware that you need to send a request to terminate your enrolment through Studielink as it will not be done automatically. When you terminate your enrolment at TU Delft, you are entitled to a refund of one twelfth of the annual tuition fee for each month of the academic year in which you are no longer enrolled, with the exception of termination as from July and August.

Enrolment termination with retroactive effect is not possible.
