Our Future Vision
The TU Delft | Campus Rotterdam Development Plan outlines the university’s long-term ambition for a fully-fledged teaching, research and innovation campus in Rotterdam by 2040 and provides insight into the steps needed to get there. We will take every step carefully and deliberately, remaining open to adjustments. Plans will be aligned with the current political reality of new austerity measures, and the programme team will remain open to all potential concerns that may arise during this long-term development. In every phase, we will maintain close contact with participation bodies, faculties, staff, and students, keeping everyone informed of upcoming developments and the questions that arise.

The draft Development Plan is currently being assessed by our consultation bodies, including the Student Council.

Insight into the Route
Through the development of Campus Rotterdam, TU Delft demonstrates its commitment to social challenges and the development of technical talent in Rotterdam. This campus is a crucial strategic step in our cooperation with other knowledge institutions, the business community, and the municipality of Rotterdam. The Executive Board (EB) emphasizes that the road to a fully-fledged campus by 2040 follows a phased approach, with the launch of three new Bachelor’s degree programmes in 2027 and a growth target of 10,000 students by 2040.

New Phase
The Executive Board has recently appointed Professor Maaike Kleinsmann as the new chair of the TU Delft | Campus Rotterdam programme. She is succeeding Professor Lucas van Vliet, whose temporary position on the programme team has now come to an end.

With Maaike’s arrival, the programme team will have a permanent chair, enabling us to continue building on our ambitions as Rotterdam Campus takes shape. “It’s a real pleasure to be asked to lead the Campus Rotterdam programme. Together with Han Derkx, in his role as vice-chair of the programme, and the programme team, I want to create a new campus that both impacts the immediate environment and also contributes to the huge transitions the Netherlands is facing. In addition to my role as chair, I’m also going to take the lead on the ‘Health & Tech’ theme, while continuing to work one day a week on my research.”

Lucas van Vliet looks back on the recent past with pride: “The TU Delft | Campus Rotterdam programme is about to enter a new phase of developing a campus into a unique and innovative hub. Here, education, research, and industry come together in a city where many challenges surrounding the major transitions of the coming decades converge. As plans become more specific, it’s good that there will be an almost full-time chair.”

Your opinion matters
We want to broadly gauge what you consider important for the future of the campus. Therefore, we are starting preparations in December for a Participatory Value Evaluation (PVE) to gather these insights. This method will help us get a clear picture of what matters and what is considered important. This will help us make more well-informed decisions for the future, with room for diverse perspectives within the organization. We have previously done the same on the topic of fossil fuels. The choices and responses in this consultation will be processed anonymously, meaning they will not be linked to other data such as name or email address. The consultation will be carried out by Populytics.

TU Delft | Campus Rotterdam update

Onze Toekomstvisie
Het Ontwikkelplan TU Delft | Campus Rotterdam schetst de langetermijnambitie van de universiteit voor een volwaardige onderwijs-, onderzoeks- en innovatiecampus in Rotterdam in 2040 en geeft inzicht in de stappen die nodig zijn om daar te komen. We nemen elke stap zorgvuldig en weloverwogen, en blijven open staan voor bijsturing. Plannen worden afgestemd op de huidige politieke realiteit van nieuwe bezuinigingsmaatregelen en het programmateam blijft openstaan voor alle mogelijke zorgen die kunnen ontstaan tijdens deze langetermijnontwikkeling. In elke fase houden we nauw contact met medezeggenschapsorganen, faculteiten, medewerkers en studenten. Zo houden we iedereen op de hoogte van komende ontwikkelingen en de vragen die daarbij ontstaan.

Het concept Ontwikkelplan ligt ter beoordeling bij onze overlegorganen, waaronder de Studentenraad.

Inzicht in de route
Met de ontwikkeling van Campus Rotterdam toont TU Delft haar betrokkenheid bij maatschappelijke uitdagingen en de vorming van technisch talent in Rotterdam. Deze campus is een cruciale strategische stap in onze samenwerking met kennisinstellingen, het bedrijfsleven en de gemeente Rotterdam. Het College van Bestuur (CvB) benadrukt dat de weg naar een volwaardige campus in 2024 een gefaseerde aanpak kent met de start van drie nieuwe bacheloropleidingen in 2027 en een groeiambitie naar 10.000 studenten in 2040.

Nieuwe fase
Het College van Bestuur heeft onlangs professor Maaike Kleinsmann benoemd als nieuwe voorzitter van het programma TU Delft | Campus Rotterdam. Zij volgt professor Lucas van Vliet op wiens tijdelijke functie in het programmateam inmiddels is afgelopen.

Met Maaike’s komst heeft het programmateam een vaste voorzitter, waarmee we verder kunnen bouwen aan onze ambities terwijl Rotterdam Campus vorm krijgt. ‘Het is een waar genoegen om de leiding over Campus Rotterdam te mogen overnemen. Samen met Han Derkx, in zijn rol als vice-voorzitter van het programma, en het programmateam wil ik bouwen aan een nieuwe campus die zowel impact heeft op de directe omgeving als ook bijdraagt aan de enorme transities waar Nederland voor staat. Naast het voorzitterschap neem ik tevens de lead met betrekking tot het thema “Health & Tech” en blijf ik een dag per week werken aan mijn onderzoek.

Lucas van Vliet kijkt met trots terug op de afgelopen periode: ‘Het programma TU Delft | Campus Rotterdam staat aan het begin van een nieuwe fase om een campus te kunnen gaan ontwikkelen tot een unieke en innovatieve hub. Hier komt onderwijs, onderzoek en bedrijfsleven bij elkaar in een stad waar vele uitdagingen rond de grote transities van de komende decennia samenkomen. Nu de plannen concreter worden is het goed dat er een nagenoeg voltijds voorzitter komt.

Jouw mening telt
We willen breed peilen wat jullie belangrijk vinden voor de toekomst van de campus. Daarom starten we in december met de voorbereidingen voor een Participatieve Waarde Evaluatie (PWE) om deze inzichten op te halen. Met die methode krijgen we een duidelijk beeld van wat er leeft en wat belangrijk wordt gevonden. Dat helpt ons beter onderbouwde beslissingen te nemen voor de toekomst met ruimte voor de diverse perspectieven binnen de organisatie. Dat hebben we eerder ook gedaan rond het thema fossiele brandstof.

De keuzes en antwoorden in deze raadpleging worden anoniem verwerkt. Dat betekent dat deze niet worden gekoppeld aan andere gegevens, zoals naam of e-mailadres. De raadpleging wordt uitgevoerd door Populytics.

On 25 November, from 13:00 to 15:00, a protest will take place on the Malieveld in The Hague against the government’s plans for cuts in higher education. The protest will focus on the future of the higher education sector and its importance for Dutch society. The Executive Board wholeheartedly supports this action: “We too are deeply concerned about the 1 billion in cuts to higher education and science proposed by this cabinet. So make your voice heard in The Hague!” TU Delft wants to give students and staff the opportunity to participate as much as possible. To this end, a number of arrangements are in place.

• Educational activities are taking place, unless staff take part in the protest.
• If your lecturer is taking part in the protest, which means that a scheduled contact moment will not take place, they will inform you asap via the subject’s Brightspace page. This message will also indicate how you can cover the subject matter of the cancelled contact moment on your own. The contact moment is cancelled and will not be rescheduled.
• Make sure you catch up on the subject matter you missed.
• Scheduled examinations will take place.
• You are not required to be present on 25 November, except in case of patient care, compulsory practical sessions, tests and classes that go through on the day and are marked as compulsory.

Protestactie tegen bezuinigingen hoger onderwijs op 25 november

Op 25 november vindt er van 13:00 tot 15:00 uur op het Malieveld in Den Haag een protestactie plaats tegen de kabinetsplannen voor bezuinigingen op het hoger onderwijs. De protestactie richt zich op de toekomst van de universitaire sector en het belang daarvan voor de Nederlandse samenleving. Het CvB steunt deze actie van harte: “Ook wij maken ons ernstig zorgen over de voorgenomen bezuinigingen van 1 miljard op het hoger onderwijs en de wetenschap door dit kabinet. Dus laat je stem horen in den Haag!” ​​​TU Delft wil studenten en medewerkers daarom zo veel mogelijk de gelegenheid geven erbij aanwezig te zijn. Daarvoor gelden wel een aantal afspraken.

• Het onderwijs gaat door, tenzij medewerkers deelnemen aan de protestactie.
• Als jouw docent deelneemt aan de protestactie, waardoor een gepland onderwijsmoment niet doorgaat, dan informeert de docent je hierover z.s.m. via de Brightspace-pagina van het vak. In dit bericht wordt ook aangegeven hoe je de leerstof van het vervallen contactmoment zelfstandig kunt doornemen. Het contactmoment vervalt en wordt niet op een ander moment ingehaald.
• Zorg er zelf voor dat je de gemiste stof inhaalt.
• Geplande toetsen gaan door.
• Je bent op 25 november niet verplicht om aanwezig te zijn, behalve in gevallen van patiëntenzorg, verplichte practica, toetsen, en onderwijs dat op die dag doorgaat en als verplicht wordt aangemerkt.

Vanaf nu kun je op de nieuwe website van TU Delft over sociale veiligheid terecht voor alle informatie, contact met vertrouwenspersonen, en een agenda met activiteiten. Binnenkort komt er ook een centraal meldpunt voor studenten en medewerkers.

Daarnaast zijn er Share & Care-sessies, waar je in kleine groepen kunt praten over ervaringen met sociale onveiligheid. De eerstvolgende sessies zijn op 29 november en 3 december. Verder blijft TU Delft werken aan een veilige en inclusieve omgeving, met onder andere een verbeterd feedbackbeleid en training voor leidinggevenden.

Update Social Security & Integrity

From now on you can visit the TU Delft’s new Social Safety website for all information, contacts, information, contact persons and a calendar of activities. Soon there will also be a central reporting point for students and staff.

There are also Share & Care sessions, where you can talk in small groups about experiences with social insecurity. The next sessions will take place on 29 November and 3 December. TU Delft also continues to work on creating a safe and inclusive environment, including an improved feedback policy and training for managers.

In our post of 22 October, we announced that students and staff of TU Delft will have the opportunity to take part in protests against the cabinet’s plans to cut higher education. Today it has been announced that the demonstration against the cuts to higher education and science on 14 November in Utrecht has been cancelled because the safety of the demonstrators cannot be guaranteed.

Onderwijsdemonstratie in Utrecht afgelast

In het bericht van afgelopen 22 oktober lieten we weten dat TU Delft studenten en medewerkers de gelegenheid krijgen om deel te nemen aan de protestactie tegen de kabinetsplannen voor bezuinigingen op het hoger onderwijs. Vandaag is bekend geworden dat de demonstratie tegen de bezuinigingen op hoger onderwijs en wetenschap op 14 november in Utrecht is afgelast omdat de veiligheid van demonstranten niet kan worden gegarandeerd.

In September, TU Delft started the pilot project Connect: a place on campus where you can go with your questions to a fellow student, in the spirit of ‘for and by students’. Not sure where to go with questions about your studies, personal development or wellbeing? Connect’s student hosts are happy to help and think with you, whether your question is big or small. 

You are welcome to drop in between 12:00 and 14:00 Monday to Friday. In November you can find us Monday to Wednesday in Exhale and Thursday and Friday in the Aula, next to the TU Delft shop. In December we are in the Echo on Mondays and Tuesdays and in the Aula on Wednesdays to Fridays. See the current list of locations and opening hours here.

Op zoek naar hulp? Vraag het aan een medestudent! 

TU Delft is in september gestart met het pilotproject Connect: een plek op de campus waar je terecht kunt met vragen voor een medestudent – helemaal volgens het idee “voor en door studenten.” Weet je niet precies waar je moet zijn voor vragen over je studie, persoonlijke ontwikkeling, of welzijn? De student hosts van Connect helpen je graag op weg en denken met je mee, of je vraag nu groot of klein is. 

Je bent van maandag tot en met vrijdag welkom om tussen 12:00 en 14:00 langs te komen. In november vind je ons op maandag t/m woensdag in Exhale, en op donderdag en vrijdag in de Aula, naast de balie van de TU Delft shop. How Are U Week 2024 takes place from 11-15 November. This week is all about creating space for you in a hectic student life. It’s an invitation to check in with yourself and each other. We’ve teamed up with Student Development and Exhale to bring you a unique mix of inspiring workshops, creative activities, care & support and analogue get-togethers designed to help you relax, connect, and recharge.

Join the HAU Week
Come join us for an Outdoor Hot Tub Night or the ADHD LIVE – Community Night. Or maybe the Offline Escape Night with Candlelit Concert, Movie Night or the creative Kintsugi workshop? Whatever your pick HAU Week offers you the opportunity to escape, relax and connect. During HAU Week we invite you to leave the pressure of productivity, performance, and perfection at the door, Exhale style.

What can you expect?
Daily events at Exhale, with pop-up events at Aula and the Library. The HAU program includes creative workshops, (acro) yoga, and interactive sessions that focus on community building and stress relief. Connect will also be at Exhale each weekday in November between 12 – 14 so if you have any type of question about your studies, development and well-being, it’s welcome at Exhale. Whether you’re looking to soothe your mind, move your body, ask a question or simply hang out: we’ve got you.

How Are U – Week 2024: ‘A Dynamic Week of Workshops and Events to Check-In, Relax, and Connect’

De How Are You – Week 2024 vindt plaats van 11 tot en met 15 november. Deze week draait helemaal om het creëren van ruimte voor jou in een hectisch studentenleven. Het is een uitnodiging om bij jezelf en elkaar in te checken. Samen met Student Development en Exhale is er een unieke mix van inspirerende workshops, creatieve activiteiten, zorg & ondersteuning en analoge get-togethers te bieden, ontworpen om je te helpen ontspannen, verbinden en opladen.

Doe mee aan de HAU-Week

Zoek je hulp of ondersteuning tijdens je studie?
De TU Delft biedt verschillende mogelijkheden voor begeleiding en ondersteuning tijdens je studie en helpt je ook bij je persoonlijke ontwikkeling en welzijn. Voor meer informatie over beschikbare middelen en initiatieven kun je terecht bij ‘Mijn studie en ik’ op de TU Delft Student Portal.

As of January 1, 2025, disposable cutlery will no longer be offered for free at TU Delft’s catering locations. It will only be available for a fee (0.25 euros per fork/spoon/knife). In the academic year 2023/2024, over 130,000 pieces of disposable cutlery were used. By bringing your own reusable cutlery set we reduce waste. This aligns with TU Delft’s sustainability ambition to be CO2-neutral, circular, and climate-adaptive by 2030.

Don’t have a cutlery set yet? Purchase one for 2 euros at any catering location on campus or at the Aula shop.

Neem je eigen bestekset mee – Vanaf 1 januari

Vanaf 1 januari 2025 wordt er geen gratis wegwerpbestek meer aangeboden in de horecalocaties op de TU Delft. Dit is dan alleen nog beschikbaar tegen betaling (0,25 euro per vork/lepel/mes). In het academisch jaar 2023/2024 werden er meer dan 130.000 stuks wegwerpbestek gebruikt. Door het meenemen van je eigen herbruikbare bestekset reduceren we afval. Dit sluit aan op de duurzaamheidsambitie van de TU Delft om in 2030 CO₂-neutraal, circulair en klimaatadaptief te zijn.

Heb je nog geen bestekset? Koop deze dan voor 2 euro in alle horecalocaties op de campus of in de Aula shop.

Master’s Event (28 November 2024)

Are you almost done with your bachelor’s and orientating on a master’s programme? During the online Master’s Event on the 28^th of November, you will get all the information you need to make a conscious choice. There will be an in-depth session via Microsoft Teams about every TU Delft master’s programme. If you would rather visit an on campus event, you can join the next event on the 20^th of February.

Master’s Event (28 November 2024)

Ben jij je al aan het oriënteren op een masteropleiding? Tijdens het online Master’s Event van 28 november krijg je alle informatie die je nodig hebt om een bewuste keuze te maken. Er zijn verdiepende sessies via Microsoft Teams voor ieder masterprogramma van de TU Delft. Als je liever naar een on campus event gaat, kun je op 20 februari terecht bij het volgende Master’s Event.
