Design competition 2019 Markt Lander
The assignment for the 2019 design competition for first year Mechanical Engineering students has almost reached its end. Based on the Insight Mars lander, eighty first-year student teams have build their own ‘Marktlander’ This year: a marslander who can take a beating. Come and have a look for yourself.
The goal is to build a self-propelling mechanism that can continue its movement after a fall from table height, and then deliver a ‘Golden Box’. Fall resistance is key.
Where and when?
The design competition for first-year Mechanical Engineering students will take place on 19 June 2019.
Daily schedule: Programme (in Dutch, subject to change)
Location: the Markt in Delft

Ready, set? Recycle your PET!
Climate change, oceans full of garbage, the loss of natural resources: our planet has many problems. Big issues, but you can start small. You don’t have to be a world saviour to do something for the future. Just start at our campus.
Recycle your pet bottle
In collaboration with Coca Cola, Maas and Cormet, TU Delft will start a pilot for separating and collecting PET bottles on the campus. By doing so, we hope to contribute to the recycling of valuable PET bottles and the reduction of litter.
On 17 June the pilot will start at four locations: the Aula, CEG, Aerospace Engineering and Architecture and the Built Environment. At those four locations, you can throw your PET bottles in the appropriate waste bins. By the end of 2019, we want to collect 40% of the sold PET bottles on campus at the pilot locations.

The revelation of the symbolic artwork at CEG
While riding or strolling on campus, you might have noticed something strange out of the corner of your eye, something huge and white! This is not just a mysterious white surface, but construction workers are hanging up a symbolic artwork at the faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences which will be revealed on 7 June.
The reason for the artwork is the 125th anniversary of study association “Het Gezelschap Practische Studie”. The artwork represents the studies of the faculty. It exists of a large engraving of all the rivers in the world and got the name “Share Knowledge Like Rivers Flow”. This name is chosen to symbolize the connection the faculty has with water at all places on earth.
Want to see the artwork? On June 7 at 12.45 you can see how the white surface changes into a beautiful piece of art. Make sure you be/ride or walk there!
Campus Run 5 June: athletic scientists wanted
We are pretty sure TU Delft has the most athletic students, PhD’s and scientists of the Netherlands. And we want to prove this. On 5 June, the study association Gezelschap Leeghwater organises a big running event on campus. Good for your energy level and the world; with your participation you contribute to the charity fund Longfonds. This charity helps people with lung diseases and difficulties in breathing.
Take your running shoes out of the closet
During the Campus Run you will see every corner of the Mekelpark. Both routes – 5 or 10 km – will be marked clearly. There are also volunteers who guide the athletic participants through the day, so you won’t get lost!
Volunteering during the Campus Run
Do you prefer to work as a volunteer this day, instead of running the route yourself? We also look for enthusiastic volunteers. Tasks of the volunteers could be providing water and fruit to runners, starting and finishing the event and signing-up runners.
Signing up or donating
Want to sign up? A single ticket costs €5,- and can be bought on the website of Campus Run. Just want to donate for a team or a person? Or do you want to be sponsored? Any questions? Send us an e-mail: info@campusrun.nl

Scientists of TU Delft created the smallest autonomous racing drone in the world
The drone-racing team of MAVLab succeeded in creating the smallest autonomous racing drone in the world. The drone has a diameter of 10 centimetre and weighs 72 grams. With only one camera and very little onboard processing, the drone flies autonomously through a racetrack.
One of the challenges during the creation process, was the usage of just only one small camera and the limited amount of data processing. The most important innovation is the prediction of movement and computer vision. Want to know more about this self-directing and artificial intelligence racing drone? Watch https://youtu.be/sOZJt35dIxM or go to the website of MAVLab.
