Opening TU Delft Sports Engineering Institute
Wat hebben sport en technologie met elkaar te maken? Kan het sneller, hoger, met minder weerstand? Precies het soort vragen waar de TU Delft antwoorden op kan geven.
Kom ook naar de officiële opening van het TU Delft Sports Engineering Institute op woensdag 17 september. De middag bestaat uit een kort plenair programma onder leiding van Studio Sport presentator Tom Egbers, gevolgd door een feestelijke netwerkborrel op het innovatieplein, waar u kunt kennismaken met de nieuwste innovatieprojecten van de TU Delft op het gebied van topsport en breedtesport.
Highlights programma:
- Ontdek de ambities van het TU Delft Sports Engineering Institute
- In gesprek met het bedrijfsleven, o.a. DSM en Asics
- De sporters en wetenschappers aan het woord
- Delftse sports engineering projecten presenteren zich op het innovatieplein

From 1 to 14 August 2014, the Library will once again have extra extra long opening hours: every day from 08:00 to 02:00.
Don’t trash it: Freecycle!
Ecolution and the Survival Café of the International Office would like to remind you that in August, during the introduction week, there will be a Freecycle bazaar for the new international students at the TU Delft.
Many students come to the Netherlands without a lot of equipment. This is yiour chance to donate things that are not used any more but still in working order. Thus, we can both avoid waste and the need for buying new products.
If you have items (books, kitchen utensils, electronic devices, …) that you do not use any more make them available for their original purpose! You can either bring them to the Ecolution office at the times mentioned below or contact us by email to arrange things (ecolution@tudelft.nl).

Present your idea at Falling Walls Groningen
The Falling Walls Lab is an innovative scientific format for young researchers. The Lab is a platform for excellent academics, entrepreneurs and professionals from all disciplines who get the opportunity to present their research work, business model, innovative project or idea with peers and a distinguished jury from academia and business. Each participant has 3 minutes time on stage.

Is your Master’s thesis on peace and security issues? Then enter the ‘’VISIONS ON PEACE’ thesis contest and stand to win 1500 euro.
Criteria for participation
- the subject of your thesis must be related to peace and security issues
- you are attending or have attended a Master’s study at a Dutch university or at another institution of higher education in The Netherlands
- you have completed your thesis between 1 July 2013 and 1 September 2014
- your thesis was rated with a minimum of 8
- your thesis is written in correct English or Dutch
- it is the first time that you participate in the “Visions on Peace” thesis competition

Vacancies: Ecolution board members for the new academic year

If you are interested in environmental issues and are looking for a student job at the TU Delft, Ecolution has vacancies for new board members for the next academic year 2014-2015, starting September!
We are looking for active people that are interested in and care about ecological topics and who want to engage in the planning, preparation and coordination of environmental activities at the TU Delft (10 hours per week/0.25 fte).
Ecolution is a university-wide effort to reduce our environmental impacts, preserve resources and show sustainability on campus and beyond. By organising lectures, workshops, excursions and initiating on-campus activities we want to make research in and the practice of environmental sustainability more visible.
If you are interested in the position, please send your Motivation Letter (500 words on why you want to be part of Ecolution and how you can contribute) and CV (one page with relevant information) to: ecolution@tudelft.nl.
The deadline of the applications is the 3rd of August. Be prepared for a talk in the weeks after. In case you are enjoying your vacations somewhere else, this can also be held over skype.

Join the Battle of Ideas

The Battle of Ideas is a competition for teams of Dutch and foreign bachelor and master students who study in the Netherlands. The competition focuses on creating ideas to tackle global problems in a new and innovative way. The three teams with the best ideas will be invited to WOTRO’s conference Forward Thinking. There, they will enter a one-day sandpit: a co-creation session with representatives from science, policy and practice. At the end of the day, the teams will be judged by experts, including the Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, Lilianne Ploumen. The winning team will receive an award of 1500 euro per team member.
