TU Delft is currently working on the parking policy for the TU Delft Campus, which follows the Mobility and Accessibility Vision. This vision states that TU Delft is committed to concentrating car parking at six strategic locations. The expansion of P Sports and the construction of P Rotterdamseweg will contribute to this. The concentrated parking areas are distributed across the campus in such a way that every motorist will be able to find a parking spot within the maximum permitted walking distances. Here we would like to give an update in the process and decision making.

Update on progress
On Thursday September 30, the City Council approved the proposal to withdraw parking spaces on our campus from the public domain. The Works Council and the SC have advised positively regarding the interpretation of the parking policy. The Executive Board will take a final decision on October 12. After that the parking regulation will be introduced in phases.

Bridging period
After the final decision of the Executive Board on October 12, TU Delft can take its first steps in regulation. It takes time to equip all parking locations with parking management systems. Until the systems are installed at all parking locations, TU Delft will start with a bridging period at the four busiest parking locations (P Aula, P Bouwkunde, P Rotterdamseweg and P Sports). In the fall (expected end of October), a barrier with a steward will be temporarily installed at these locations from 7:00 to 15:00 on weekdays, outside these times free parking will still apply. At these times, only parkers with a campus card and parkers with a destination on campus will have access. The steward will check this.

Eventually, this bridging period will transition into an implementation of the parking policy through an electronic system that works in conjunction with the barrier, eliminating the need for a steward. There will also be parking information along the campus ring to quickly find a free parking space. This is expected to go into effect in phases in Q1 and Q2 2022.

Aankondiging nieuw parkeerbeleid TU Delft Campus

De TU Delft werkt aan het parkeerbeleid voor de TU Delft Campus waarbij onder meer de Visie Mobiliteit en Bereikbaarheid een uitgangspunt vormt. Hierin is vastgesteld dat de TU Delft inzet op het concentreren van autoparkeren op zes strategische locaties. De uitbreiding van P Sports en de bouw van P Rotterdamseweg dragen hieraan bij. De geconcentreerde locaties zijn dusdanig over de campus verdeeld dat iedere automobilist op acceptabele loopafstand een parkeerplek kan vinden.

Update van de voortgang
De gemeenteraad heeft donderdag 30 september jl. ingestemd met het voorstel tot onttrekking aan de openbaarheid van parkeerplaatsen op onze campus. Ten aanzien van de invulling van het parkeerbeleid hebben de OR en SR positief geadviseerd. Het CvB neemt daar op 12 oktober een definitief besluit over. Daarna wordt de parkeerregulering gefaseerd ingevoerd.

Overbruggingsperiode
Na het definitieve besluit van het CvB op 12 oktober kan de TU Delft eerste stappen zetten in de regulering. Het kost tijd om alle parkeerlocaties te voorzien van parkeerbeheersystemen. Totdat de systemen zijn geïnstalleerd, start de TU Delft met een overbruggingsperiode op de vier drukste parkeerlocaties (P Aula, P Bouwkunde, P Rotterdamseweg en P Sports). In het najaar (naar verwachting eind oktober) komt op deze plekken tijdelijk een slagboom met een steward te staan van 7:00 tot 15:00 uur op werkdagen, buiten deze tijden geldt nog steeds vrij parkeren. Op deze tijden zijn de parkeerlocaties alleen toegankelijk voor medewerkers en studenten door middel van een campuskaart en voor andere automobilisten met een bestemming op de campus.

Uiteindelijk zal deze overbruggingsperiode overgaan in een implementatie van het parkeerbeleid door een elektronisch systeem dat samenwerkt met de slagboom. Ook komt er parkeerinformatie langs de campusring met realtime beschikbaarheid om snel een vrije parkeerplaats te vinden. Naar verwachting treedt dit in Q1 en Q2 2022 gefaseerd in werking.

The National Safety and Security Week will take place from 11 to 14 October 2021. Under the leadership of the Safety and Security department and in collaboration with the Integrity Office and ICT Security, TU Delft is participating in this national initiative for the fourth time this year. This year, too, we would like to draw your attention to various safety issues that play a role in and around the TU Delft campus. Together we ensure that the campus is a safe environment to study, work, research and relax. In this edition we pay attention to the topics of knowledge safety, digital safety and road safety. We do this by, among other things, a lunch session in which Lennard van Veen of the AIVD (General Intelligence and Security Service) talks about knowledge security in an international perspective. There is an escape room on campus where you can test your cybersecurity knowledge. Are you new to the Netherlands and not yet used to cycling? Then sign up for the cycling lessons!

Nationale Week van de Veiligheid 2021

Van 11 tot 14 oktober 2021 vindt de Nationale Week van de Veiligheid plaats. De TU Delft doet onder leiding van de afdeling Integrale Veiligheid en in samenwerking met het Integrity Office en ICT Security dit jaar voor de vierde keer mee met dit landelijke initiatief. Ook dit jaar vragen we jullie aandacht voor diverse veiligheidsthema’s die spelen in en rondom de campus van de TU Delft. Samen zorgen we ervoor dat de campus een veilige omgeving is om te studeren, werken, onderzoeken en te ontspannen. In deze editie besteden we aandacht aan de onderwerpen kennisveiligheid, digitale veiligheid en verkeersveiligheid. Dit doen we onder andere door een lunchsessie waarin Lennard van Veen van de AIVD vertelt over kennisveiligheid in internationaal perspectief. Er staat een escaperoom op de campus waar je jouw kennis over cyberveiligheid kunt testen. Ben je nieuw in Nederland en nog niet zo gewend aan het fietsen? Meld je dan aan voor de fietslessen!

Alle studenten die in 2022 recht hebben op studiefinanciering en/of het studentenreisproduct krijgen in oktober een belangrijk bericht van DUO. In dit bericht staat waar je volgend jaar recht op hebt.

DUO adviseert iedereen dit bericht goed door te lezen. Het kost maar een paar minuten en het is gelijk duidelijk waar je als student volgend jaar recht op hebt.

Soms wijkt het bedrag van de aanvullende beurs in 2022 af van wat je verwacht. Meestal is deze dan nog niet berekend omdat de Belastingdienst de inkomensgegevens van je ouders over 2020 nog niet heeft doorgegeven aan DUO.

Met de tool op duo.nl/aanvullendebeurs krijg je snel meer inzicht in de aanvullende beurs en advies wat jij of je ouders kunnen doen om in januari niet te weinig uitbetaald te krijgen.

Starting 1 October 2021, all emails, calendar items, contacts and tasks in the Deleted Items folder in Outlook will be automatically deleted after 60 days. We do this to create space on our servers in the data centres of Delft University of Technology and to keep the size of the mailboxes manageable, both in data and financial terms. This is also the case when you have an online archive.

What does this mean exactly?
Every mailbox has a folder called Deleted Items. This folder contains all mailbox items (emails, calendar items, tasks, contacts) which have been deleted by you or by an automatic mailbox rule.

When you delete these items from the Deleted Items folder they will be moved to the so called ‘Recoverable Items’ folder. There they will stay for another 14 days until they are finally deleted. The ‘Recoverable Items’ folder is not shown in the folder list in Outlook or Outlook Web App (OWA).

As long as the items are still in the ‘Recoverable Items’ folder, you can move them back to the Deleted Items/Deleted Items folder and from there to another folder, for example the Inbox/Mailbox folder. You can do this from the Deleted Items/Deleted Items folder by clicking on a button at the top of Outlook (Recover Deleted Items) or a link (Recover items recently removed from this folder), depending on the version of Outlook.

So after you delete an item, you can still recover it for 74 days. After that the item is gone.

Deleted Items folder in Outlook

Vanaf 1 oktober 2021 ​​​​​worden in Outlook alle e-mails, agenda items, contactpersonen en taken die in de Deleted Items/Verwijderde Items folder staan automatisch na 60 dagen verwijderd. Dit doen we om ruimte te creëren op onze servers in de datacenters van de TU Delft en de grootte van de mailboxen, zowel in data als financieel, beheersbaar te houden. Zo staat dit ook al ingesteld wanneer je een online archief hebt. 

Wat houdt dit precies in?
Elke mailbox heeft een folder genaamd Deleted Items/Verwijderde Items. In deze folder staan alle mailbox items (e-mails, agenda items, taken, contactpersonen) die door jou of door een automatisch mailbox regel zijn verwijderd.

Wanneer je deze items ook weer verwijderd uit de Deleted Items/Verwijderde Items folder worden deze verplaatst naar de zogenaamde ‘Recoverable Items’ folder. Daar blijven ze nog 14 dagen staan tot ze definitief worden verwijderd. De ‘Recoverable Items’ folder zie je niet staan in de folderlijst in Outlook of Outlook Web App (OWA).

Zolang de items nog in de ‘Recoverable Items’ folder staan, kun je ze terugzetten naar de Deleted Items/Verwijderde Items folder en van daaruit naar een andere folder verplaatsen, zoals bijvoorbeeld de Inbox/Postvak In folder. Dit kan je doen vanuit de Deleted Items/Verwijderde Items folder door op een knop te klikken bovenin Outlook (Recover Deleted Items) of een link (Recover items recently removed from this folder), afhankelijk van de versie van Outlook.

Dus nadat je een item hebt verwijderd hebt kun je deze nog 74 dagen lang terughalen. Daarna is het item weg.

Erasmus University of Rotterdam is organizing an essay competition about:

That is why Erasmus University of Rotterdam would like to invite you to give your vision on the above question and receive from you a powerful and critical essay of up to 1,000 words in English, with a systematic view of our future challenges. The essay competition is open to all students at Leiden, Delft, Erasmus (MC) and of the departments of History and History & Literature at Harvard University.

Award
Voucher for a cultural student journey to Boston and Harvard, Massachusetts, USA – the state where the Pilgrim Fathers ended their journey or Leiden, Delft and Rotterdam, the Netherlands, where the journey started.

Ceremony
The prize awarding and the presentation of the best essay(s) will take place in the Oude or Pelgrimvaderskerk in Delfshaven, Rotterdam on 25 November 2021, Thanksgiving Day.

Criteria
The essay should:

• be written in style in English
• ideally holds original ideas/ be visionary
• contain critical content
• be urgent.
• be inclusive/promotes fellowship

Small courses, individual attention: Come join us at ITAV!

This year the psychology team is celebrating their 50th anniversary. They will celebrate this in the week of 4-10 October by organizing different activities around the theme of vulnerability.

Seeing vulnerability as something powerful is an idea that was first explored by Brene Brown. Vulnerability is difficult when it can be associated with shame and fear, but at the same time it is also the source of joy and creativity. Being vulnerable to oneself and others creates more connection which can be a fertile ground for creating and maintaining important relationships.

The student psychologists believe that being vulnerable can contribute to a more positive learning and research climate at our University and hope that this week can give an impetus to and contribute to this.

In collaboration with the International Universities Climate Allicance the TU Delft invites you to participate in several activities planned in the lead up to COP26. As a student or Student Organisation you can also consider joining as Climate Alliance Student Ambassadors. Also:

• The 2021 ClimateTalks Global Hackathon will be open to educators and student societies worldwide to register, run their own hackathon, and submit a short video of students’ best entries during October 2021. The shortlist of students with the most innovative concepts will be invited to present their ideas to coincide with COP26, in a dedicated virtual event.
• During the 21st – 1st October 2021, ClimateTalks Global Festival, will be open to students and the general public alike, providing lots of inspiration and opportunities to ask questions about the hackathon theme during live virtual discussions. Students who register for the entire program will receive a certificate of attendance that educators may elect to use for credit in courses or assignments.
