Update: teaching and exams 4th quarter

Update 8 April 15.00: teaching and exams 4th quarter

TU Delft has decided that all educational activities in the fourth quarter (Q4) of this academic year will take place online as much as possible; this also applies to the examinations. In concrete terms, this means that until the end of Q4, education will be offered online and that alternative examinations will also be offered remotely. This was already the case until 1 June, and this measure will now be extended to include the entire fourth quarter.

TU Delft feels it is very important to provide clarity on this subject at this point in time, so students can prepare for this, and lecturers can fully focus on the range and quality of (online) alternatives. For (international) students who are currently abroad, this means that an alternative for educational activities and examinations will become available remotely.  We will look for other possibilities for activities that cannot be moved online, such as certain practicals. Students will be kept informed about this via Brightspace.

Adjustments on the implementation of the Binding Study Advice (BSA) scheme

Binding recommendation on continuation of studies (BSA)

Following the agreement made by Dutch universities with the Minister of Education, Culture and Science, TU Delft has decided to adjust the implementation of the Binding Study Advice (BSA) scheme this year. The following applies to the BSA that will be issued at the end of the 2019-2020 academic year:

Positive BSA

Students who started in September 2019 or later and achieve 45 EC or more will automatically receive a positive BSA according to the TU Delft BSA regulation.

Postponement of BSA

  • Students who started in September 2019 or later and pass between 30 EC and 44 EC this academic year will be automatically postponed by the BSA at the end of August.
  • Students who started in September 2019 or later and received a positive interim recommendation in March 2020 (at 22.5 up to and including 30 EC) will automatically receive a postponement from the BSA at the end of August.

In these cases, students must have obtained the 60 credits from the first year at the end of the second year.

Possible postponement

Students who started in September 2019 or later, who achieve less than 30 EC this academic year and who did not receive a positive interim advice in March 2020, will receive a (proposed) negative binding study advice. They can, however, apply for a postponement from the BSA if there are personal circumstances that have negatively influenced their study progress.

If a student is granted a postponement, the student must have obtained 45 credits from the first year or the 60 credits from the first year by the end of the second year of study.

Already had an earlier postponement

Students who have already been granted a BSA postponement will receive a positive binding study advice at the end of August if they meet the BSA standard (45 EC from the first year of study or the first year fully completed). If they do not meet the BSA standard, they can apply for a further postponement if there are personal circumstances that have negatively influenced their study progress.

Procedure for BSA postponement

The procedure for requesting postponement is available on the BSA website. If you have any further questions, please contact your faculty’s study advisors.

6 and 7 april: extra online minor information sessions for 2nd year BSc students

The sessions are organised without obligation by the minor coordinators, who will give a presentation and who will be able to answer your questions about the minor concerned. On the website you will find the online minor sessions with the date and time they are scheduled (keep an eye on the updates).

For now these are only sessions for the selection of minors. The dates for the non-selection minors will be added to this page as soon as possible.

Update: corona measures extended until 28 April

The Dutch government has announced that all corona measures will be extended until Tuesday 28 April (Dutch). These include: working from home as much as possible, observing the hygiene measures and keeping a distance of 1.5 metres from each other. In the week before 28 April, the government will decide on necessary measures for the period thereafter.

TU Delft had already decided to offer education online as much as possible until at least 1 June. We are also preparing for the situation where education can only be provided online until the end of the academic year. Should government policy be relaxed in the meantime, we will consider which forms of education and/or testing can take place on campus again.
