Technology invades our daily life more and more. So why not educate all of us and make everyone a potential web developer? Restart Network agrees: it is an organization which offers computer science bootcamps to refugees, minorities and low-income backgrounds. The bootcamps takes only 3 or 6 months and best of all, is tuition free.

But, to make this possible, engineers are essential: they are needed to share their knowledge about computer ‘magic’ with the students. Take Jesse, a Computer Science masterstudent here at the TU Delft. He decided to help. He gave a workshop about how the students could use the cloud to make a web application available for a large group of people in a cheap and fast way.

It’s a win-win: the students are in need of this kind of education ánd the engineers can experience the amazing feeling of sharing knowledge and inspiring others.

Finished with your (re-sit) exams and waiting for the results? Then you should know that your registration at TU Delft will not be terminated automatically when you are graduated. When you are graduating, you should file a request for deregistration during the month of graduation. You do not have to wait until graduation; you may submit the request as soon as you can, preferably even a couple of weeks prior to your graduation date. You pay tuition fees up to and including the last month of your registration. Retroactive deregistration is not allowed

So, have you passed your exams and are you officially done studying? Time to deregister and celebrate! Visit the CSA website for more information regarding deregistration and/or a possible refund of tuition fees.

If you terminate your enrolment as of 1 July or 1 August you will not be entitled to a refund. For more information, click here.

When you are interested in traveling to Asia, you can also join the information lunch of the Netherlands-Asia Honours Summer School (NAHSS) on Monday 27 November at the Danszaal in the Culture centre. Already convinced you want to join? We will work hard this coming weekend to make sure the ICT applications are be up to date and running for you for the rest of the period. So, on the 25^th and 26^th of November we will have a ICT Maintenance weekend which can cause some short hick ups in the network. Several applications will not be available. For instance, on Saturday morning the WiFi network ‘TU Visitor’ will not be available.

You can always contact the Service Desk in your building when you have any questions about the Maintenance weekend.

Nicoly Vermeulen nieuwe Vice President Operations                             

Nicoly Vermeulen wordt Vice President Operations (VPO) in het College van Bestuur van de TU Delft. De Raad van Toezicht heeft Vermeulen benoemd per 1 januari 2018. Hiervoor vervulde zij posities bij ING als Chief Operating Officer en Chief Financial Officer. Bij de Sociale Verzekeringsbank was zij voorzitter van de Raad van Bestuur.

De Raad van Toezicht is zeer verheugd dat Nicoly Vermeulen de positie van VPO wil vervullen. “Als bestuurder combineert zij de juiste kennis en ervaring op het gebied van vastgoed, financiën en bedrijfsvoering, zowel in een nationale als internationale context”, aldus Jeroen van der Veer, voorzitter van de Raad van Toezicht TU Delft.

Nicoly Vermeulen studeerde bedrijfsinformatica en bedrijfseconomie. Zij bekleedde diverse functies waaronder die van COO/CFO bij ING International Private Banking en ING Real Estate. In de periode 2010 en 2016 had zij zitting in de Raad van Bestuur van de Sociale Verzekeringsbank, waarvan de laatste vier jaar als voorzitter.

De Raad heeft een kandidaat gezocht die goed past bij het aangepaste bestuursmodel dat per 1 januari 2018 van kracht wordt. In dit bestuursmodel is voorzien in een positie van Vice President Operations met focus op de complexe vastgoedopgave waar de TU Delft de komende jaren voor staat en op een transparante aansturing van de ondersteunende diensten.

De Ondernemingsraad en de Studentenraad zijn door de Raad om formeel advies gevraagd en hebben over deze benoeming positief geadviseerd.

In het licht van het aangepaste bestuursmodel zal per 1 januari 2018 de functie van Rector Magnificus gecombineerd worden met de rol van voorzitter College van Bestuur. Deze positie zal worden bekleed door Tim van der Hagen, de huidige bestuursvoorzitter. Daarnaast zal het College van Bestuur per 1 januari 2018 bestaan uit een Vice President Operations, Nicoly Vermeulen, en een Vice Rector Magnificus tevens vicevoorzitter. Voor deze laatste functie wordt de wervingsprocedure gestart.

Nicoly Vermeulen new Vice President Operations

Nicoly Vermeulen is to become the new Vice President Operations (VPO) of the Executive Board TU Delft. The university’s Supervisory Board has announced her appointment from 1 January 2018. Before this, she held positions at ING Bank as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer. At the Sociale Verzekeringsbank (the organization that implements national insurance schemes in the Netherlands) she was Chairman of the Executive Board.

The Supervisory Board is very pleased that Nicoly Vermeulen has agreed to fill the position of VPO. “As an executive she combines the right knowledge and experience in the fields of real estate, finance and operational management, both in a national and an international setting,” says Jeroen van der Veer, Chairman of the Supervisory Board.

Nicoly Vermeulen studied business informatics and business economics. She has held various appointments, including COO/CFO at ING International Private Banking and ING Real Estate. Between 2010 and 2016 she was a member of the Board of the Sociale Verzekeringsbank, the last four years as Chairman.

The Advisory Board looked for a candidate who would match well with the new University Administration Model that will come into force on 1 January 2018. This model foresees the appointment of a Vice President Operations with a focus on the complex real estate challenges TU Delft is facing in the coming years, and on the transparent management of the support services.

The Board requested a formal recommendation from the Works Council and the Student Council and has received a positive recommendation on the appointment.

In light of the amended Administration Model, the position of Rector Magnificus will be combined with the role of President of the Executive Board from 1 January 2018. This position will be assumed by Tim van der Hagen, the current President of the Executive Board. As of 1 January 2018, the Executive Board will further consist of a Vice President Operations, Nicoly Vermeulen, and a Vice Rector Magnificus who is also Vice President. A recruitment procedure for the latter position is now underway.

De gebouwen op de campus zijn weer van stroom voorzien. Alle gebouwen die ontruimd waren, openen in de loop van de middag weer hun deuren. Je wordt hierover verder geïnformeerd via de communicatiekanalen van je eigen Faculteit/Dienst.

The buildings on the campus affected by the power cut are reconnected to the grid. Buildings that have been evacuated, will be reopening their doors during the course of the afternoon. You will be kept informed of this through the communication channels of your Faculty/Support Service.
